Ren Jia Lun is so good at being a villain with the way he smirks. He was beautiful in Blue Whisper and tore heart strings with his suffering. Here he has made everyone hate him. Good actor. The fl playing Ci is pretty but she never seems to show how much she is suffering when she is wounded, stabbed, poisoned etc.. Might just be me but I feel she should look more pathetic after so much damage. She is good at the rest of her acting though (in my opinion). The script calls for them to behave illogically at times and that is not her fault. The title of this episode says she will be cleared of suspicion so I am relieved. Zhao shouldn't have been smirking if that is the case, lol. He was getting back at her for telling Yan about Teng Rui not being dead via checking the body for the leg injury. That is why he put the gourd in the mouth of the corpse. To implicate her.

The emperor is not a good person no matter what. He doesn't care about killing anyone unless they are of use to him. He may believe Pei Yan is possibly his son also so could influence his decision to spare him. Whether someone is innocent or guilty doesn't matter to him at all. Pei Yan shows he has care for Ci by begging for her life to be spared which is noble of him. He seems to care for her personally also and not just because she is innocent. He is always wondering how she views him versus Zhao. He is so different from the emperor in that regard since he doesn't want innocent people to suffer. His mother is more like the emperor. She would be willing to kill anyone for her schemes. They would have made a good match if the emperor hadn't dumped her. Two wicked people.
