He unfortunately and unintentionally complicated things by subconsciously giving her his wife's face while saving her and treating her injuries. Not that that I'm saying she should have necessarily stayed with him and his jealous, murderous foster sister either. I'm just saying there is no way a reasonable person would have ever gone back to the ML.

To those that say she should dump the abuser I say: He disclosed his true feelings about her to the woman he thought was her, then thought it wasn't her, she realized that all the evil things done to her were really to protect her as well as his kingdom. They acknowledged their love for each other and the difficulty of them moving forward. He did the right thing by taking care of her mother and allowing her to leave and start a new life. Being with the general out of gratitude would have been wrong for her and him. He deserved to find someone who was in love with him. The ending was perfect, allowing them a new beginning. This is very well done and very much worth watching.

Many people have different views on this drama, so I'll tell you mine. This js a great drama about love and sacrifice, if the prince didn't humiliate her and act as if he hates her then she would've died on the day of the wedding, he never killed anyone she loved, her brother died in a battle caused by her father and nangong xi's brother. He never wanted war and he was protecting her by pretending to hate her and wanting her to suffer. Otherwise she would've died at the hands of the nangong family. Her father got her married to the enemy knowing that she wouldn't last a day. So she survived because of his love for her. So my advice to you is watch the drama and decide for yourself. Thank You😊

So about the nangong family. They helped the king build the south state and fight back against the yin state, therefore they gained control of the palace and all they wanted was death and war. When the king fell I'll, that was their time to shine, restarting the war between the south and yin, so basically the crown prince had no power and he was scheming, coming up with ways to get rid of the nangong family, that's why he couldn't mess with them before his power increased.

This is a romanization of abuse. Actions speak louder than words and just from your justification, it shows that girls will fall for sweet words and gaslighting every time. Think about the trauma she had to endure. Tell me if you would just 'fall back in love so easily' after being humiliated by forcefully having to watch your husband be with another woman, get imprisoned, attacked, having to kill one of your guards to escape, and crawl your way out of a drain system, then get hunted down by soldiers like a fox by hounds, jump off a cliff and survive that fall??? Then have to put up with the toxic ex running you down to your new hide out and threaten the people who are trying to help you???? I nearly forgot that she was forced to watch the burning of her brother and his fallen army. And that the arrow he aimed at her uncle's back. What if she had missed? Cdramas are good at making toxic tropes sound amazing. I think you need to watch The Double instead. That drama gives good examples of toxic vs healthy relationships. If he really loved her and this was all an act, then he would have let her die. He would have not led danger to the very place that was keeping her safe. He would have let her live a life of peace outside the palace. He would have made sure of it. Love is also about letting go. He would have quietly celebrated that she got away. Him saying that he had no way to protect her against the Nangong family was BS. And if he's that ineffectual and powerless then he would be dead. Otherwise, there he was about to kill the general for helping her. He was about to get rid of an ally just out of jealousy. Not really smart of him when he put them in danger in the first place. When she asked him if he hated her and he said he loved her, I was thinking 'funny way of showing it' and then when he was playing the flute I kept thinking 'girl, stay away. don't do it'. She walked back into the same prison, prettier package. Not once did he do anything real to help protect himself and her from his real enemies. He was not politically savvy at all. He didn't work to bring down the corruption in the Nangong family. By the time he thought about it, it was too late to really do something. The Double sort of has a similar theme but you get to see how it's really done in that drama. Let me put it to you this way, the FL in The Double doesn't just say 'it's okay, baby, I understand why you tried to kill me. It's okay for you to screw around with another woman, because you said you love me still' and all is right with the world, and she goes back to her toxic ex. No, there is hell to pay. The problem with this drama is that the toxic ex is the hero.

I'm surprised at the majority of negative comments. Despite having seen them beforehand, i'm glad i watched it till the end. I really enjoyed it; from the few ost background music to the cast and props. Yes it is true that the crown prince acted with lack of emotional intelligence, not caring for the feelings of his princess (the bed scene was distasteful). But he did what he knew or thought best. Some clues were when he killed the prison guard for abusing her, and not wanting Nangong's men to find her first. While he was pestering the Lin family, i was also rooting for him to find out the truth amidst his clear obsession or desperation and have a redemption arc, which to me he did. You only know what you had until you lost it. While the pain she felt from him is unforgivable and unagreeable, i think through it all, it is understandable. I did feel sad for him, and her. Hence the bittersweet ending is apt where she clearly still feels for him and understands him now but with their past, she is better away from the palace and him. Ps in my eyes the second ML never stood a chance as he was subconsciously not over his wife and it may also be savior complex with the princess. There wasn't much time for personal feelings to develop as most of their relationship revolved around the crown prince instead. So as much as I wanted her to finally have a happier ending with the crown prince after the Nangong family was no longer in the way, i think the ending was realistic and actually healthy 🤷🏻‍♀️ I did prefer the first actress before the princess was disfigured, but overall the cast was very pleasing to watch. I love the tender moments between FL and ML 😢 3.5 hours well spent ❤

I actually loved this series. It’s called Broken The Heart. It appears to be a cruel ML,but in fact he isn’t. Everything he does, is because he loves her and wants to keep her alive. While the general is lovely, he is still in love with his dead wife. That’s why he subconsciously gave her his wife’s face. It would be hard not knowing whether he loved you, or the face you have. He also didn’t kill her family. The brother died in war, and in fact he let the uncle go, and rescued her mother. The humiliation was done, because it amused the concubine, and that kept her alive.

I would recommend watching this in its entirety and not letting the comments persuade you otherwise. SPOILER ALERT!!! Crown prince doesn’t actually kill her brother but since he’s already dead from the battle (their countries are at war with each other) he burns the bodies together instead of chopping them up into pieces like his commanding general wanted, which would be far more cruel, this was more dignified at least. He also had to be cruel and cold towards his wife to protect her from his general and his sister (side concubine) as their family was powerful and his own power not established in court. He had hoped that once has wife had child, it would solidify her own status in court however she took precautions to not conceive. I can go on about other misunderstandings between the two of them but I think overall this is worth watching ❤

As both a writer and a psychology major, i can say that even a 10-min advertisement can teach a person a lot and even a small fictional drama can lead us to wrong ideals. I don’t know why people think only children get affected by the content they watch. The concept of creating and presenting stories was a form of passing good and profound messages across different people. Now we may consider it as a mere source of entertainment but we are in fact greatly influenced by them without even realising. If you can tolerate abuse in a fictional story, it is partly because your mind can accept the concept of abuse to some extent. These dramas and stories condition your perspective on a daily basis. So beware of what you are consuming in the name of entertainment. As for the main commenter defending the ML, some actions can’t be justified with any good reason. Are you saying that he couldn’t have told her everything and that she wouldn’t do everything in her power to play along with him? Her pain and humiliation doesn’t disappear just because he did it for a good reason.

I enjoyed this one. From start to finish it kept me engaged- even with the missing background sounds. Anyways for me it was realistic. She loved the man and he loved her, but the trauma between them was real and they both needed time apart to be healed. He learned from his mistakes and wasn't the same person anymore as for herself, she gave herself a chance to live without him. In the end if they can start over anew I am happy for them. I do feel bad for the other guy since he genuinely cared for her- however love cannot be forced and the fact that he gave her his dead wife's face shows that he isn't over his first love either. Anyways thanks for posting this one. I'll probably watch it again later the next time I am in the mood for a difficult love story.

Wow, that's a big movie! It has everything that viewers love! Congratulations to the actors, they are all super talented and I loved them! The scenario is not conventional, but rather has a historical basis, it was very exciting. 👌 Female lead: Daisy Li (as Princess Yin Ruo Shui). He played the character outstandingly. The male lead, Deng Kai (as King Yu Wen Sheng) played the cruel ruler very well, but underneath the mask is love for his wife. The ending of the movie is strange. He lets him go, since he almost died in the fight to protect his beloved woman, but there is a loophole, which is reassuring... 💕

It's an open ending tbh, you can interpret as however you want. I can see why most of the comments are saying that the FL at last goes back to the ML cause of the usual flow of this mini dramas. But i would like to think them meeting at last with a smile on their faces especially the FL is cause it's more of a closure, she is happy in her life which she never thought she could have, she appreciates him for that and has let go of her past with him. I think there is a difference between the audience. I'm figuring young girls are justifying the toxic BS thinking it's romantic. I worry about you all who think this is a good example of love. If this crown prince really had no power and depended on the Nangoog military family to protect the empire, and he really loved the FL, he would have been doing his best behind the scenes to bring down the Nangong family. If he was really trapped into harming her, then he could have neglected her or found a way to send her away from danger. But once she was out of the palace, he could have declared her dead. He could have quietly rejoiced that she was safe with Gen Lin and his family. He would know which of his men were to be trusted and did his best to keep this family safe. He would have let her hate him. He would have sacrificed for her. That's what this ML did not do. He didn't sacrifice for her. His excuses were not good enough...he would have let her go if he really loved her. Difference between love and obsession. He had to learn that at the end.

This was great, cast good, actors had good visuals and one of the few times the actresses had good visuals too. Different storyline and plot was handle with creativity. Fan of FL, when I first saw her in a drama with Zhao Lusi, she was stiff and her expressions weren’t done well, but now, I guess she has more experience, all her acting in the mini dramas has been excellent. Hope to see her more now and in the top dramas.

I get the ML was fighting for control of his court, but there are many ways he could have handled this situation. Kings married multiple wives mainly to control the court. If threatened, they have leverage. Frankly, he could have simply imprisoned his disloyal general's entire household to use as leverage against him. And in case the general doesn't care for his family, leverage all that family's allies weaknesses as well. Meanwhile, cripple the evil hag's legs and hands so she can't harm anyone and hold her hostage until you can collapse the brother's power. Or fake beloved's death, send her somewhere safe, then go about with his original plan. Torturing his beloved to "keep her safe" was the most selfish option. He wanted to keep her by his side and under his control. If he truely loved her, he would have told her what the hell was going on and give her the choice to either stay and help or fake death and stay in hiding until safe!! But it was unbearably stupid, that he had the leverage over that family literally in his hands the entire time and just let her use the FL to control him like a total moron.

This storyline is just so common in every c-drama with scumbag male lead(ml) ... first the ml insults, hurts and humiliates the fl horribly for years or for a long time ..and then when it's time for redemption, he just risk his life for once to save the fl's life..and then take advantage of the fl's emotional state to get her forgiveness. Ml's past actions then somehow excused for various reasons and in the end it becomes as if the fl has lost her memory. Even Chinese bl novels have this same framework The scum ml never gets punished properly for his actions and never suffers what he had made the fl to suffer

I just finished watching the whole drama. I am glad that in this drama, the king hurt her in a bad way because he was trying to protect her and her family from death , but she didn't understand. They have both happy ending.💙❤️💙❤️

I just can't wrap my head around what I watched. The storyline was so unpredictable that it became hard to follow. The ML's character was portrayed as a villain at first, but then it suddenly changed in the middle, which was confusing. The general was portrayed as a generous person, but he didn't get anyhting. The most confusing character was the FL - I couldn't understand her motives. When she was in the general's mansion, she cared for the ML, then in the palace, she cared for the general. After they won the war, she left without any explanation, and decided to wander for three years. But out of nowhere, they met again.

Great acting by the actors except for the crown princess (the first one was pretty decent though). Not really the best story but got me hooked until 3 am. Do not be mislead by other comments. Although I understand some might not like this series but remember the setting is during ancient period when war and killings were the means of survival. The crown prince is torn between his responsilbility to his estate & people and to the princess of their opponent. He fell inlove with the princess long before he knew she was a princess and promised to marry her once they defeated the opponent

He was not sadistic, people, he had to pretend to be like that bc of the general who was controlling his state. He was pretending to like the general’s nasty sister and was trying to keep the one he truly loved alive - the only way he could. I understand his torment exactly.

The perfect ending would be a full and complete reconciliation… maybe some of ya’all are seeing or hearing something different but to me, all they did was smile at each other at the end so best case scenario is that they can be good friends moving forward

Is this supposed to be love? Honestly I don't get this kind of love. Even tho i didn't grow up with a loving family or circumstances. It's easy for me to walk away as soon as someone treats me like that. This is so toxic. Its sad n not love. When u can't be honestly real to each other n yourself more importantly. Like seriously! Chinese dramas are getting worse. This humiliation and hurting in the name of protection is definitely not love. Being honest with each other was the best option to protect. These plots really disgust me. And the women supporting this kind of abuse and calling this love....would they say the same if their men treated them the same way? I belive never. Even if this kind of man is asking for forgiveness on his deathbed I will never be able to forgive him for sure. She is literally getting nightmares of him. He has tormented her to that level. When you love someone you can never see them in pain. And ordering her to strip in front of other men. Disgusting 🤮🤢 That should have been her bottom line!
