There's actually a clip where she talks about how the free meals one of her part-time job's manager's gave her was her lifeline. It's actually surprising how many of our wonderful idols at hololive had it pretty tough before joining Hololive. I mean, it could almost definitely have been worse (both her and her parents survived the fire, after all), but her house still burnt down, and it put her family in a financially tough enough situation that she had to get part time jobs to help make ends meet. It's just that Subaru is so unbelievably unfazed by all the heavy stuff she's had to deal with personally, that you'd never suspect she was someone who spent the first five years of her life in a hospital, then had her house burn down when she was in, I believe, high school. Maybe in her early years of college. Oh, and I think she mentioned having been in a vehicle accident before, but how she talked about it, it sounded like she was actually talking about having been hit by a car while on foot. Either way, I'm just glad we have our incredible duck today. While I enjoy all the Hololive girls, Subaru is my favorite.

People are selfish and are lacking in empathy to say that they are thankful that a tragic past happened to her and led her to Hololive. I was pretty much homeless during my childhood, I just realized it when I was 12. Now that I have a place to call "my home" I dont know what I would do if it sudenly dissapeared. Theres a saying: "Adversity tempers steel." To be able to face such difficult situations and still shine in such a beatiful way speaks wonders about the incredible person that Subaru is.
