KIM JUN SU first introduced me to Pansori close to 8 years ago. He appeared on “I Can Hear Your Voice”, Korea’s ‘American Idol’. Except, his version was an acoustic rock/Pansori hybrid. It was an excellent -albeit brief - performance.

We have a similar ancient singing tradition in India, its used to call in the snake gods, and it use a string instrument instead of drum, and its mostly sung by a caste and its almost a lost art rn. It is called as "Pulluvan Paattu", pulluvan is a caste name and paattu means song. Its as soulful, emotional and spiritual as pansori and even the vocal controllings are similar

As you know, Pansori is a form of storytelling by singing and narrating! So knowing about what stories there are and learning Korean could be the first step. If you are already familiar with korean, starting with Namdo Minyo(Folk Songs of South area) like 'Jindo Arirang' can help you get use to the sounds of Pansori.
