Most of the time, I'd be bored if such a short plotline was stretched out for 10 minutes. It's incredible how pansori is capable of taking a simple plot and turning it into something with so much emotion and meaning. Love it.

I first heard part of Simcheongga on the National Singing Contest back in 1983 while stationed at Osan. It was performed by a young girl and I could not understand a word of it. It sounded strange and discordant, but still managed to touch me in some way that I could not understand. My then girlfriend, now wife, is of the Cheongsong Sim clan and so she delighted in telling me a bit about the story. Now more than 30 years later I find this and get to follow along with English subtitles and it does not sound strange or discordant, it sounds like pure emotion. It touched me in a way that I now can understand and I broke down in tears. Thank you so much for putting this out; it is just so incredible!

1smallstep I really appreciate your sincere comment! and also thank you for serving my country Korea! As a local Korean, I also shed some tears when I watched this play... so I decided to translate the words and make English subtitles... Now you've made me feel rewarded! Haha thanks for that! :)

kjkj927 I am so grateful that you put in the tremendous effort to translate this; my Korean is limited, but it is good enough to know how different it is from English and how hard it is to render the subtleties into English. You've done a great job here and I am not going to be greedy and wonder if you are going to translate more pansori. If you do, I will be eternally grateful, but that you have done this much is something awesome.

Love pansori

The english language cannot possibly express the nuance and elegance of the Korean Language, especially since it's more of an older Korean style. I mean, it's with all languages really.
@SiKedek2 жыл бұрын
Not only older style - it's an older regional style from the Jeollado region (there are some linguistic traits that betray its Jeollado origins), where the cities of Jeonju and Naju are situated.

i wanna know the different between 'changgeuk' and 'pansori' i think pansori is base and changgeuk is advanced of 'pansori' it add more tools than pansoi. while pansori need only 'drums' and one singer but changgeuk needs more people and more tools. both are singing. but c has performance and acting. so 'changgeuk' is musical type of korea? if i make mistake i'm really sorry 🙏 as a foreigner it is little confused. i found only some video in yt and wiki can someone explain this? i wanna know more cuz 'jeong yeong ' by kim taeri drama. i'm confused about the type in that drama is 'changgeuk' or 'pansori'. i have read before that 'pansori' started
