I watched this several years ago and loved it. It was the first Chinese series I watched. I thought it was just a made up story. Since then,I have watched dozens - often having to binge watch them. Recently, I watched 'Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace'. I recognised some of the story and the names !!! I then researched the Qing dynasty and I was amazed. The characters were all real, but their characters were so different. In Yanxi, The empress was a saint. In Ruyi, she was evil ! The heroine in Yanxi - the palace servant who becomes a consort and posthumous Empress, is consort Ling, whose son becomes the next Emperor - In Ruyi - she is really evil and killed by the Emperor !!! The step Empress after the death of Empress Fucha, is absolutely evil - but in Ruyi, , it is Ruyi who becomes the empress and she is the saint heroine !!! Jia and the others, are the same in both - really bad ! The scene where Ruyi cuts her hair, is so much better in the Ruyi series. It is the dramatic highlight of the whole series and brings to an end, her relationship with the Emperor. It is so good. In Yanxi, if you blink, you miss it !!! Once I knew the characters were all real people, I researched the Qing dynasty and viewed the KZbin clips of Dinling, where all these people, including Ruyi, are buried. Once she had cut her hair and was locked up by Quianlong, after her death, he refused to give her a proper funeral and mausoleum. Only recently when they opened up the plundered mausoleum of Consort Chun, they found a mysterious un-named second coffin. After research, it was discovered to be the coffin of Ruyi. In Quainlong's mausoleum, Empress Fucha is with him on the right, but there is an empty space on the left, where Ruyi's coffin should have been laid, but never was !!!!
