[Eng Subs] Chisato and Takina's touching bench moment

It kind of annoys me when you see people complaining that too much time in Lycoris Recoil is spent goofing around the café instead of the 'actual' story. How can you be over halfway into this series and not get that this stuff IS the story? One of the best things about episode 8 is that it shows just how far Takina has come from the cold, direct person she was at the start of the show - someone who was perfectly ok with allowing a civilian to be kidnapped if it could provide her with a lead - to going out of her way to save the café because she knows it's important to Chisato. Episode 1 Takina wouldn't have gone out of her way to do that or come outside to cheer up Chisato. It's the stuff like this that shows the friendship between the two of them developing and changing them that makes it more than just a show about a couple of cute girls firing guns.

That's it. The Story from Lycoris was from Start an the friendship between this two Girls. We have 9 Episoden Witnessed how both have become closer and closer. Chisato has managed to completely change the otherwise so cold Takina. Takina would now do anything for Chisato and that's exactly what she will do in the next few episodes.

Lots of people don't understand character development and the fact that it is the core part of a story. They tend to translate "story" into "plot" regardless of how little it meant in the absent of meaningful effects toward the characters' experiences and relationships.

I had a discussion with a good friend from my D&D group (who is also the DM) about why these moments of non-action and downtime are actually good for stories. He mentioned that the cool plot-related stuff like saving the world, fighting bad guys or running a country, while awesome and entertaining to watch, is often harder to relate to, because who actually does this stuff on a regular basis? Downtime and SOL moments where the characters just get to be themselves and interact with each other, doing mundane and ordinary things, helps develop the characters further and allows us to relate more to them. That gets us attached to the characters and we start to care more deeply about them, thus we become more emotionally invested in the story. It's kinda like just knowing someone at work versus considering the same person as a friend. If something happens to a co-worker whose relationship with you is purely business, you'll probably feel sad for them but on a relatively superficial level, and you'll also probably be worried about how this will affect your work. ("What now? The main protagonist is dead, who will defeat the BBEG?") If something happens to a co-worker who is also a close friend, you'll probably feel their loss and grieve it, perhaps even to the point of needing to take a break from work. ("WHY, YUUKI? WHY DID REKI KAWAHARA FORCE SUCH A CRUEL FATE ON YOU WHEN HE WROTE THE PLOT OF THIS STORY?")

Agree. Without that part the story will be much darker. The "actual" storyline was really dark, and that's when the director decided to add some "brightness" to the anime.

that scene is indeed amazing, in fact the whole episode is, how they manage to balance the light hearted moment at the beginning with lycoreco cafe financial status, then moving to the plot heavy stuff with the green guy, and then to the really touching and beautiful moment between the two, and finally they ended it with the massive cliffhanger. the whole episode is a roller coaster of emotion

they are one step away from being girlfriends, i was excited to finding out about mika and his past. shame they never fully confirmed them, but to me they act as much more than friends i hope the manga shows off more of their relationship so i dont have to just have the "bury your gays" trope for this anime

I really like lycoris recoil especially Chisato and takina but after episode 9, a lot of lycoris fandoms in my country just spam "2 months" since Chisato will gone after 2 months, I'm really sad bcs i don't really want Chisato gone i love her so much, when the manga is released it just gives me a lot of hope. I'm just really hope that Chisato will be ok
