He's drawing a comparison between Shulk convincing him to stop and a blade trying to cut through him. Egil is essentially saying that Shulk failed to either kill or convince him.

The issue is that in cutscenes where the song starts in a cutscene but ends during a fight, it can be toggled. In cutscenes where the song starts and ends within a cutscene, it's stuck as the new version with no way to change it. i would also disagree that it adds more gravitas, as the new vocals just sound goofy and out of place to me.

I’ll never forget the day I first saw Fiora... you know. I don’t wanna spoil it. I had got Definitive Edition for Christmas and I thought it was an ok experience so far. Then an hour into playing... and then that happened. My entire view of the game was changed. I knew I was in for one hell of an emotional experience. I just reached Eryth Sea as I’m typing this and I can still say that this has been an emotional journey and still has SO MUCH FURTHER to go. And I look forward to seeing where at goes, but at the same time this is one of those games that you almost don’t want to finish because then it’ll be over. You’ll never get to experience it for the first time... ever again.

Potential Spoilers following: Literally the best game I've ever played. The last 4 chapters blew my mind and threw all my expectations out the window. I initially thought the Zanza twist was very out of left field but it's growing on me. I am kinda sad that I wanna say the last time this song plays is when you kill Dickson. This song kind of defines the game for me because when Fiora dies was when I really fell in love with the game. I could tell the developers had so much love put in to the game and that they were going to relentless in showing their passion for every tiny aspect of the game. I can't give this game a score out of ten because even if a number could encapsulate my love for this game it would be incomprehensible to the human mind.

Honestly, everyone focuses on Zanza's release and Fiora...but this song really sticks out for me in the Ether Mine when you find out you're too late and everyone in Colony 6 is dead, and at the time we thought Gadolt was too. Sharla absolutely losing her shit as the party desperately tries to bring down an invincible enemy is definitely one of the more powerful moments to me. Sharla has lost so many people, and even though this song doesn't play during Otharon's major contribution, which I believe is the only time an NPC does a damn thing for the party that means anything... Xord definitely stands out in my mind for how he was something you wanted to destroy because he was just a monster. And even when he was thrown in the river and you thought you won, he still came back. That area seems really underappreciated to me personally

3 years on from the remaster and now almost 14 from the original game and this song still gives chills, ecapsulate every emotion thag it needs to to convey the messege of any given scene its paired with, im glad that throughout my 18 years this game has solidified itself in my heart, plYing it as a kid and still now i get the same feelings i did back then, the best epic in my opinion to be told in all of fiction, the story, the characters, every single detail finely tuned to utter perfection to create the best story of modern times.

TL:DR This moment this song plays was the beginning of what would end up being my favorite series. When I started Xenoblade last summer, my only experience with the franchise was exclusively through Smash Bros. Had no knowledge of the game at all except for Shulk and Rex exist, the Monado is a sword, and Pyra and Mythra are the same person. Oh and something about a vision, but point being, no idea at all what I was getting into. So my friends on Discord finally bully me into getting Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, and my first reaction was telling them this game had probably the best title screen ever. Then I started playing, and my God, I hated it. The auto attacking felt so wrong to me, I didn't want to keep playing. Sure I like the robots, and this Dunban guy is pretty cool, but this auto attack bullcrap, that's an absolute no. I'm sure others love it, but it ain't for me. My friends didn't like this reaction. They wanted me to try the game, and I wasn't convinced. So they gave me a limit to how much I needed to play. They said "Sage how about this. You finished the prologue, we'll make you a deal. Play the game for just two or three more hours. That's it, that's all you have to play. If you're not convinced by then, you don't have to touch this game ever again." And that sounded like a fair deal. So I continue playing and after about two hours, I'm ready to turn in. I like Shulk, Reyn, and Fiora, and they had a fun relationship, but I'm still not convinced. I was about to tell them I was done, but then the attack started. Seeing the Mechon drop from the sky and the hopeless, desperate struggle, I was getting invested. I didn't see it as a fight to win, I saw it as a fight to survive. And the game is actively telling me to run away? I'm the main character, I'm supposed to be untouchable, and the game is telling me to avoid the battle? What the hell kind of game am I playing here? Once Shulk picked up the Monado, I was really feeling it. Jokes aside, I was having a bit of fun, but not enough to call the gameplay fun. The story was kinda getting me, but the gameplay, not at all. And spoiler, I still wouldn't be enjoying the gameplay much at all until like chapter 10 or something. But I'm still feeling good, and then Metal Face shows up. I'm ready to beat his ass. Cut him down to size, show him he fucked with the wrong one......WHY ARE ALL MY ATTACKS ONLY DOING ONE DAMAGE?!?!?! This was my first shock with the game, and the first time a game made me feel hopeless since I had first played Halo Reach back in 2011. And then.......Loss. The cutscene begins, and this song starts playing. I had never heard it, but watching Dunban get smacked away in just one hit, after the slaughter he gave the Mechon in the prologue, and the one damage I was doing just seconds earlier, I felt like this wasn't going to end well. But then in comes Fiora in a freaking tank Mecha, and I'm like "Hell yeah Fiora, get his ass!" And when the music slowed for Shulk's vision, I was dumbfounded. Come on game, Fiora has been established as a main character, and Shulk's love interest. And it's only chapter 2. You wouldn't kill her off right now........right? And then it happens. Metal Face stabs Fiora through the Mecha, tossing away her corpse like trash. And when Shulk snapped and screamed "I KILL YOU!" I felt it. His anger, fear, hate, regret, and pain, all thrown out in three simple words. And that was when it clicked. This is one of "those" moments in gaming. That part of video game where there's no turning back, because you're completely hooked. Totally invested. I knew there I NEEDED to keep playing. I would suffer through the boring gameplay and experience what insane story this game wanted to tell. That was July of 2021. Fast forward to today, at the end of August 2022, and I've played 1, 2, 3, and Future Connected, currently playing through Torna. It still has gameplay I have to play for a bit to start enjoying, and I hope that 3 isn't the end of the franchise. And even with all this, my single favorite game is still The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but as a grand whole, Xenoblade Chronicles has overtaken The Legend of Zelda as my favorite game series of all time. It has truly been just that special.

I still can't believe that Nintendo of America almost completely passed on bringing the first game to the West. Though, in hindsight, the fact that they refused to localize the game and wound up using the British localization that Nintendo of Europe was forced to do wound up being a blessing as the British accents really helped give the game a distinct identity in North America. Without it we almost certainly wouldn't have arrived at Eunie being so sparking awesome. I almost feel like you should give X a shot too if you have access to a WiiU. I hesitate though because It has the same style of combat...though like all of the games it has it's distinct spin on it. It isn't (in any way that we know) related to Xenoblade 1,2,3 in any narrative aspect though so it doesn't have that story hook of it being a shared universe and awesome story to win out over the combat. The narrative in no way is anywhere close to what Xenoblade 1 had going for it. The game is focused more on exploring than giving you the rollercoaster ride of a narrative that 1 had. The exploration is really good though. The mech aspect is pretty cool too. (though it is quite a while before you are able to get one...and then further still before it is fully realized). And, if you are fan of the xenoblade music, this will also be different. It doesn't have any of the composers from the other games working on this and it really shows. Though the overworld music for each region is still quite good. The Sylvalum area theme especially. But it also has one of the worst tracks I have ever heard (The New LA night theme). That track is such that that my wife (who isn't really even interested in xenoblade aside from adoring Zeke/Pandoria and Eunie) STILL jokes about it about 7 years later.

I kinda felt the same way about the combat at first, but I got used to the auto attack pretty quickly and since I played Kingdom Hearts, I didn't mind selecting arts during combat since the switch joy con controller was built for that sort of thing instead of a Playstation controller where you have to move your right hand to the left side of the controller if you wanna move and select things on the combat menu at the same time

As much as I love Counterattack and The Weight of Life, the feeling of dread and tension when that first sound of Engage the Enemy appears out of nowhere is inimitable. Whereas the latter two were undeniably "badass moment" songs, you never know with Engage the Enemy.

I also love how with Engage the Enemy, it actually syncs well with the scene that it initially plays within. The Weight of Life is a good song, but it feels like they just kind of slap it over scenes in the game, instead of like.. having it sync up with what's going on. In 1, Engage the Enemy fits perfectly with everything that goes on in the scene. Every moment is timed to a moment in the song which makes it feel even more effective, and pushes that desperation that exists. It embodies Shulk unable to do anything, and all cumulates him him screaming at Metal Face.
