So are the cooling elements different between this model and the combi model? And can I connect this fridge with my phone?

Engel aren't bluetooth compatible, so wont connect to your phone. The combi model only has refrigeration elements in one half of the fridge cavity, so you set the temperature to the 'freezer' and the other half of the cavity will be insulated only, by default sitting a few degrees cooler. ~ Lauren

Can I make my current bog standard mt45 a fridge/ freezer?

Not really, to do this you would have to be specific with how you manage it. The dual zone version of the MT45 has a smaller cooling element which freezes half of the cabinet and the cold that comes from the frozen section chills the other half which is essentially just an icebox i.e. it doesn't have a cooling element around the edge. For your fridge you could, for example, keep frozen goods at the bottom and chilled goods on top separated by a layer of foam or similar that would essentially create two zones. You'd then need to play around with the fridge setting to work out what temperature works best to maintain the frozen food on the bottom without freezing the food on top. Hope that makes sense. ~ Ben

The best way to go mate is run your regular mt45 as a freezer, then use a quality 20-30litre esky/icebox as your fridge and just rotate ice bricks and frozen bottles of water rotating through it. 40litre engel used as a freezer is plenty to keep your icebox super chilled for all the fruits veges and drinks, then frozen meats and meals in cryovac get defrosted in the icebox as you need them which also double up as extra cooling.
