The old time, tried and true, picture rail. Well done.

Here is a thought, instead of allowing the consignees to use screws or nails, provide hooks that clip over the top of the boards. Much like the old picture rail hooks that were used in Victorian homes to hang pictures from and prevent holes from being put into the plaster walls. This would allow more flexibility as displays and consignees change, reduce maintenance (replacing of boards, filling nail holes and breakout from screws) and the potential of damaging the wall behind the boards. Museum is taking shape, really looks good. Thanks very much for sharing.

Old fashioned picture rail like the lath and plaster walls used in the homes , before sheet rock became common place. Well done, sir!! Simple ,yet elegant and matiins, an overall simple rustic aesthetic.

Let your vendors know that the 3M Command hooks work very well. They do not damage the wall and can be removed by pulling the removable adhesive strip off. We use them in our store and they really work well and have never damaged our walls.

that's a much better idea then I would've come up with. I was thinking double sided tape, and french cleats for heavier things. but that looks great!

Assuming the panels are steel, my first thought was some of those high strength magnets that are readily available these days. Either individual magnets with hooks on them to hang pictures, or several magnets fastened to one of your 5/8 boards to hold the board in place.

The cedar does a good job of breaking up that great expanse of white. The tin walls should be great for magnets too. Looking good.

It's unfortunate Dave didn't ask for suggestions from the Ether-world. In my opinion, the correct system to use, in this case and as others have noted, would be a Victorian-style picture rail with rail hooks. It's a very versatile solution and doesn't cause any damage to the tin.

It’s still used in shops and homes. Modern versions are available, but can be pricey. For my ‘20’s house I bent some old brazing rod for the hangers to hook on to. Bulletproof and no holes in the plaster. Carry on, I enjoy your videos.

Use 3M Command Strips. They hold a reasonable amount of weight and come off clean. No holes. I use them every Christmas to hang stuff around the house.
@katherineschelp5202 сағат бұрын
They work good as long as the paint holds onto the wall. I used them to hold up a small cork board. The command hook held but the paint underneath let go.

2:00 Dave, you’re also a blacksmith! There is a dandy gap between the ribs; just begging for you to make up a gross of simple S type hooks that can hook over that wood rail between the tin ribs, and provide a hook to hang artwork on!
@bobuncle6962Сағат бұрын

@gutsngorrrr3 сағат бұрын
You could also put up a picture rail and actually use it for its intended purpose. Also as someone else has recommended, use magnets and magnetic sheets etc.
@ronboe63252 сағат бұрын
Might have to provide "approved" fasteners for vendor use to prevent over sized nails/screws from being used. Not sure if you considered a picture rail, used in museums and older homes from which pictures and photos were hung from. Could be a clean solution for hanging things in your case.
@davidclodfelter71472 сағат бұрын
You've probably already considered icebox magnets for small signs, right!
@gordbaker8962 сағат бұрын
Were you able to hold up the board and give it a few hammer blows to locate the screw holes on the panelling?
@lesahanners50572 сағат бұрын
Looks like you are making Victorian Picture Rail, Western style. Pictures in those days hung from hooks suspended with wire. The ceilings were high and the walls lathe and plaster. This didn't make for a good nailing surface, thus the picture rail. I inherited a few of the old hooks, which are pretty ornate. I hope your idea works out and no one splits your boards when they try to put nails in as cedar is rather notorious for splitting. It sure looks good and the fragrance of that cedar should discourage bugs. 😊
@keithbrowning38993 сағат бұрын
If you put your own hooks on the wood they wont have to drill anything. If they drill themselves you are going to get holes in the tin.
@BobPfohl2 сағат бұрын
Just a whisker away from making a French cleat… which would give you the flexibility to hang anything you want, anywhere along the cleat without more nails or screws.

Do have to ask how much issue do you think noise will be with all the metal rebounding sounds in the room? Noticed it when you talking how the acoustics might make it loud in there.
@boelensds2 сағат бұрын
neodymium magnets with hooks or large flat behind te boards. for steel boards ad 1 to each corner and it will stick. loads of strenght and not visible.
@mainesail309743 минут бұрын
I think you'll find that there is much greater demand for varied and multiple places to attach-whatever-to the wall than you anticipate---including a wider variety of location height options etc. Go look at some antique group shops

Could you chalk the heads of the existing screws, hold the board up & transfer the chalk.

Why not just do it like they did in the 1890's and do crown molding that has a gap built into it, and you could use hooks and chain to hook onto the crown molding and hang things at any height. Non-destructive to the walls, infinitely adjustable both left-right and up-down. Plus it's cheap, once you have the crown molding installed.
