Engine 10 + Ladder 1 Seattle Fire Department

Heavy snow fall in Seattle causing traffic problems and minor accidents. Seattle has lots of steep hills which became inaccessible for Seattle fire units. The decision was taken to mount snow chains on all of the rigs when all of a sudden a call came in. Engine and Ladder of station 10 were dispatched to a MED7 medical call together with a medic unit. A MED7 means that at least 7 persons need to be on the scene and usually it would be a CPR in progress //
Starker Schneefall über Seattle brachte den Verkehr teilweise zum Erliegen und verursachte eine Reihe von kleineren Unfällen. Die Stadt Seattle ist sehr hügelig mit starken Steigungen, die von Einsatzfahrzeugen nicht mehr befahren werden konnten. Es wurde daher entschieden alle Fahrzeuge mit Schneeketten auszustatten. Während der Montage wurden das Löschfahrzeug und die Drehleiter der Wache 10 zu einem medizinischen Notfall gerufen zusammen mit einem Rettungswagen. Das Einsatzstichwort MED7 bedeutet, dass mindestens 7 Personen vor Ort geschickt werden müssen und in der Regel eine HLW stattfindet.

Alex Rodriguez nothing to do with drivetrain, simply locked up his front brakes as most vehicles rely primarily on the bigger front brakes

The drivers and tillermen handled that situation. While Seattle is noted for rain, it is a confluence zone where it can snow hard. The main danger for these trucks and most of western WA is black ice. You cannot see it until you're moving sideways on it. Can't walk on it either. We're pretty proud of Medic 1too. Seattle is the best city in the country for heart attack survival

In response to traction devices, The engine and ladder pulling out of the station have a device called on spots. It's a little wheel that rides inside of the rear dual tire, it throws a length of chain under the tire and gives it traction

@johnsmithy667 true, there aren't many tools on our Aerial Ladders: we have our pumps, water tanks, tools and ground ladders on the Engines. Since we often respond in convoys of 2 Engines and 1 Aerial (and some more vehicles) the ladder doesn't have to carry that much. Our 'empty' room under the ladder is used to extend the ladder also to a level below the truck (e.g. in harbors, ditches etc.)

I will presume that the decision to locate that station house where it is was based on the information and insight that I am admittedly without. It appears to be a beautiful facility, housing first class equipment and what I’m sure are very skilled and capable firefighters and medics. I cannot help but wonder how someone can put the same building atop a hill and in a hole. But, if anyone can accommodate the challenge it’s a firefighter.

@mlps93 I know what you mean mlps93. If it's icy with snow on the roads, the snow could be covering some black ice. Do you by any chance know what black ice is? If not, black ice forms on the road, and especially on bridges, as bridges usually ice over first. If you're not careful during the winter on possibly icy roads, you could end up slipping on those slippery roads. I'm lucky that my dad's car has traction control, which comes in handy in slippery spots, wherever they are!

Eeryone was sliding. Engine 10 in the first clip slid forward with the steer tires turned all the way to the right. Couldn't be fun being the tiller driver in this. Pucker factor for him was probably off the scale.

Bei Seattles steilen Straßen und mit Eis darunter wird das ABS nicht viel machen können.. Die Steile der Straßen und das Wetter/ die Wetterbedingungen sind da etwas anders als du es bisher kennst
