Use gravity to install a cam. Before putting the block on an engine stand, stand the engine up right. With no main caps on, drop the cam in slowly. Use your hand to guide it down from the inside. If you want to be really picky and perfect, there is a tool you can get that bolts to the end of the cam. Its actually a handle. And if you have to, makes it easy to put it in a block that is horizontal . In this video, he used a couple of bolts to hang onto. You won't scratch the cam bearings with a lobe like he did. Use engine oil on the bearing surface of the cam, not cam lube. This will give you a true reading how the cam fits and turns. If you then put the block on an engine stand, you can make sure with the block upside down and visually see if cam lube is on all the lobes. And if not, brush cam lube on your cam and turn it and inspect it.

400 HP maybe a little more. Not really anything to hide with that low amount. Guys down in Georgia will get 600 to 1000 HP and will help you with anything and tell you anything you need to know. That’s true racers, now when you get to the high level of about 5 sec and lower in 1/4 mile then you can have secrets.

When upgrading the cam to a more mild/choppy set up would I need to also upgrade any other parts for a stock 350?? Or could a cam just be thrown in?
@ZaksMuscleMotors6 ай бұрын
If I was you I would replace the lifters, and check the springs. You may need a more aggressive spring depending on the cam. Also you’ll need to make sure your pushrod length is correct with the new cam.

A real secret is not slapping lube all over the whole cam before installing it. Lube between the first two cam journals. Slide it in and let it rest on those two while you lube the rest. Another secret. Call Comp Cams and tell them what you have and what you want the vehicle to do. Or anyone that custom grinds cams for that matter 🤦♂️

After installing my roller cam in my small block Chevy is difficult to turn with two fingers unlike yours what could be the cause of this? It's a brand new roller cam and cam bearings
@ZaksMuscleMotors2 жыл бұрын
Who installed your bearings? I would check to make sure there isn’t any spikes or bumps from the install. Clearance is tight so it doesn’t take more than a hair sized item to make one really tight

@ZaksMuscleMotors2 жыл бұрын
Well that depends on a few things. What heads and how much lift you can handle with the guides, how much spring pressure you’ll need for the lifters and whether the press in studs will handle that or not, valve clearance, trans, rear end. Lots of stuff

Anyone know where you can get a speedometer for a 1978 cabellero it’s just like a el Camino but made by gmc and only around 500 to 600 made. I can put a Camino speedometer in it but don’t want to. Since the only difference between the two trucks is the speedometer. Looked everywhere and can’t find one.

I'm planning to buy a BRZ and my first mods are tires, wheels, Cams and cold air intakes
@michaelsanders1515 жыл бұрын
From one car guy to another, taking my advice from the wisdom of old mechanics, if you put in a different cam you're going to want to go in with different heads. If you just do a cam swap make sure that the lift does not exceed that of the lift those stock heads can take .btw a cold air intake is nothing significant, it does NOT increase hp, but what it does do is help with the fuel/air atomization inside the intake manifold. Thus making run more efficiently. Depending on you're modifications to the motor you're probably going to have to burn a chip.
@michaelsanders1515 жыл бұрын
On top of that, you're going to want to run a different exaust setup, a good head/cam upgrade will benefit for sure. But it's a domino effect....replace one thing, and you're soon going to want to replace everything else, all in the name of more power...
@rhull39393 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsanders151 cold air intake does nothing? If it's a good one, it sure does. If it actually takes in cold air it will make more horsepower because cold air is denser therefore there's more air molecules in the same physical space and you could burn more fuel. Also if it's less restrictive than the stock intake, more air comes in and out of the engine making more horsepower. And burn a chip? In a BRZ? This isn't 1996. You get a tune. Don't talk out of your ass.
