8:25 pretty brutal driving them bearings in with the inner race!
@weemsmotorco Жыл бұрын
I feel ya! However, I have always used quality bearings and built more than I can count of the engines with zero issues. Always heat the cases and freeze the bearings and they drop right in with little resistance!

@@weemsmotorco and that you do, uncle Jared.. I started really taking a liking to triumph motorcycles cos of your channel.. I dont have a favourite brand of bike cos to me anything with an engine powering two wheels is a bike.. but since watching you, I started taking note of how easy they are to fix and chop.. simplicity and ingenuity at it's best.. just a pity they're so scarce here where I am..

Its shows professional attitude to clean the trap. A friend was moving and offered me his 68 lightning for $500,+ a parts bike. He said it was rebuilt,but it turned out he top-ended it. It stalled in traffic, hot as hell. Glad i stopped right there. No rods through case action. ALWAYS clear the trap.

I watched the Lowbrow Triumph rebuild series. Even if you're not doing a rebuild, it's worth a watch. Todd is very entertaining as he goes along, and I learned some new words too. "Chinga" is one.... 🙂 I had to look that up, because it seemed to apply to almost anything.
@daveco1270 Жыл бұрын
Definitely worth watching if you're interested in this stuff. I haven't had to rebuild an engine yet, but if I need to learn how to take the rotor and stator off my 650, or put in a new clutch, I can watch parts of that series and see how it comes apart and goes back together. Plus it's just good to know how your engine works by knowing exactly what's inside of it. I feel like I could do a top end when the times comes... or maybe even a full rebuild if I take my time.

It’s interesting to see the bearings being driven in. Do you have to measure id of the rods with the bearings in relation to the id of the crankshaft journals?

Yes. You have to ensure that the journal measurements align with the shell bearings.

I think it looks great. But since you got all the way down and did all that great work. Id powder coat the frame. It’s a sin there’s not too many preunits around. Id try to restore and make it look like the Judge had it when it was built.

Great videos on the rebuild thankyou, couple of questions please, on the left hand side of the crankshaft case outside is there a oil seal! When drifting in the crakshaft bearings do they go in pretty easy, couldnt make out your drift tool was it drifting on the outer race, I doing a similar project on a 59 pre unit thanks for the tips 👍
@weemsmotorco Жыл бұрын
There is a crankshaft seal there. Part Number 70-2790. When you heat the cases and freeze the bearing they do go in very easily. My drift tool doesn't go to the outer race. It is best practice to drift using the outer race. However, I have built more than I can remember of these engines and never had an issue. Always use top quality bearings!
