Learn methods to increase the accuracy of your analysis and reduce time spent disassembling by applying in-cylinder pressure testing to your diagnostic routine. John Thornton will demonstrate step by step pattern analysis and show you how to set-up and use overlays to clarify your captures. The techniques shown help quickly analyze valve sealing issues, valve opening and closing events, crankshaft reluctor problems, tight valves, incorrect cam timing, exhaust path restriction, correct or retarded ignition timing and more. Provided are examples of test results and up-to-date compression specifications for modern engines.

I just ran into a 2014 vw and the timing was 17 degrees retarded and I belive this is normal because of the misfire strategy built into the pcm. During cranking the timing is at TDC and running it goes retarded. Do you have an idea as to why that would be? I read an article that vw can retard up to 15 degrees. So how do you know other than a known good car?
