Great info right here! Good to know what bad scenarios look like

Question for the honda capture at 49:30. Suppose the customer was not willing to touch bottom end or replace the entire engine but was willing to go for a valve job. Remove head, valve grind, replace any worn out valves/guides, replace camshaft if needed. Would you feel comfortable enough going that route after just this capture? Or would want to do further testing? And if so what? Would you already feel comfortable enough saying that the issue is not in the bottom end? Also comfortable enough saying that it's not a cracked head? I deal with this sort of issue a lot at work. At my current shop I can no longer get away with just saying a problem is internal to the engine. I have to come up with is it fixable within a reasonable budget. Usually on vehicles where it's too hard to find a good used engine. Thanks and awesome video!

Can you check timing issue with cranking compression waveform?
@alexmessina33832 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the vid. You indicated that if Expansion Pocket is high it reflects a possible valve timing issues on non-VVT overhead cam engines. That would logically affect all cyl. However, what if you have, as I do (4 banger, DOHC, Hydaulic lifters, nonVVT), consistent compression peaks across all cyls and a slightly (1-2psi) but consistently higher Expansion pocket only on one cyl?? Can you have a sealing cyl on compression but still drawing in some air around valves on Expansion Stroke??? Engine runs well but very slight fishbite misfire on idle not resolved by new plugs, wires. Ig Timing is good.

Awesome video! Thank you! What max pressure transducer would you recommend using for cylinder pressure testing.? Also, how do you use the transducer when engine is running?
@autoaidetechnicalservices39813 жыл бұрын
You need a transducer that can go to 300 psi for gas and if you want to do diesel you will need 500 psi. PICO makes an excellent tool. You can use the transducer when the engine is running because the cylinder is not firing due to having the spark plug removed.

Really nice video! Just a question. Why is the cranking waveforms so different from the running ones? What changes? The cylinder in both cases is without ignition.
@autoaidetechnicalservices39813 жыл бұрын
A cranking waveform is done with the throttle open and the engine is turning over much so slower so cylinder scavenging is not really happening at cranking speed. Once the engine fires the throttle is closed and scavenging starts to take place. Closing the throttle creates more vacuum in the intake and cylinder. Even at cranking speed with the throttle closed the engine does not produce much vacuum. If you look closely at the waveforms you will see that the vacuum parts of the waveform on the running engine are much more pronounced.
