I had this very thing happen to my Alpina B7.. Changed valve cover gaskets as well as tubes after my 50 hour valve stem replacement job. I thought after 1 year there was no way i would have a leak in the bank 1 or in the spark plug chambers.. well I did and 3 out of 4 spark plug chambers were full of oil. I would get flashing Engine light on hard accelerations. Long story short I replaced bank 1 valve cover gasket and Spark plug tubes with OEM and not the generic $10 sets... No leaks now and happy Alpina fun motoring

Need new spark plug tubes and seals, mechanics never change them when the valve covers come off they just re use them because they don't come with most valve cover gasket kits. Some shitty mechanic did this to my car at some point and i had to take off the "newly replaced" valve cover gaskets to fix the spark plug tube issue, then had to replace all the valve cover gaskets again to make sure they didnt leak after potentially being seated twice. Problems fixed now i put alot of extra sealant on the tubes though because they arent that great of a design.

Nice set up with the obd to usb connector. For a hobbyist which is cheaper, buying the connector (with the relevent software) or getting an obd2 tool?

Have you replaced the spark plug domes when you did valve stem seals last time ?

Can bad ignition coils cause blue smoke ?

99% no as you'd still be looking at a fuel/air mixture inside your cylinder walls. Blue smoke is oil added to your mixture meaning you have an oil leak running into your combustion system. And since we are here at a V8 I'd suspect valve stem seals. They are relatively cheap and if you are a good mechanic you can do it yourself but be ready to have a spare car ready and loads of time and a good mood + proper tools.
