Finally catching up on this series! Nice to see the yellow nugget on my screen again! :) I love how a lot of these older FIATs seem to have some 'Lego' parts you can 'plug in' from other cars of the same era, like the Punto!

years ago i didnt understand nothing about this and everyone told me out the 1.4 16v its plug and play, i bought the engine and parts needed and told my mechanic to install, he laughed at me and said whoever told you its plug and play clearly has no clue what they are talking about, the only plug and play bit was the engine mounts, well, some months later i ended up with a 1.4 16v seicento on custom megasquirt ecu and electronics, it wasnt plug and play but damn it was worth it

The multi layer steel gaskets are tinner than the fibre ones so you'll actually raise the compression ratio.

So did you check valve clearance after lapping in the valves in they will be tighter when the valve is ground in and move deeper in to the head , i know the shims are a pain but you can grind some off the thickness .

If you own a MPI, you can swap the engine with the Punto / Lancia Y 1.2L 16v with 85hp.. It plugs right onto your gearbox and the Blackbox fits plug and play! So you just need Blackbox - Starter lock with key and the engine which can be found for 300-500,-€ when you buy a complete car without MOT / TÜV. SPI are good for tuning the original engine, but bad for swaps 😇 Btw - had to sell my Abarth and SX, but will search for another one soon!
@Pi3tt3r Жыл бұрын
SPI is easier to swap lol
@SkysaxonDragonslayer Жыл бұрын
@@Pi3tt3r - you can’t swap the 1.2L 16v into an SPI without changing the harness… So would you please be so kind and explain how SPI should be easier to swap?
@Pi3tt3r Жыл бұрын
@@SkysaxonDragonslayer SPI is better "universal" base to swap. You just need to adjust harness. Availability of ECUs with 2 plugs is limited which is common issue during changing engine from 1.1 MPI. If you would like to put 73KM engine (like Joe did) you would just need to divide wiring from 1 injector to 4 because they are connected parallelly. I have 1.2 8vT swap and its based on SPI harness ;)
@SkysaxonDragonslayer Жыл бұрын
@@Pi3tt3r - the 1.2L 8v isn’t worth a swap… 60hp instead of 55… You can tune it for sure, but just the swap is not worth the effort! Instead the 16v delivers 85hp without any tuning and can fit plug and play into an MPI … So that’s why I said SPI is good for tuning the engine, which is a pain with the MPI, but MPI is great for engine swap!
@Pi3tt3r Жыл бұрын
@@SkysaxonDragonslayer But I mean 1.2 8v 73KM. Nobody is swapping to 60 :D its totally pointless. Its the most popular swap in Poland ;) 16v is much less popular and problematic

Are you sure the valves are bigger ? I compared 8v spi heads, 1.0 to 1.2 only one side of the valves was bigger (intake i think cant remember), everyone told me 1.1 and 1.2 heads are the same, mpi might be different tho

The wrinkle paint works really well but needs to go in an oven to get it to achieve a proper finish. It doesn't state this on the can but it should in my opinion.

Very nice. :) The FIRE engine is an old construction and started some 30 years ago. Over time it has gone from carburetted, to single-point injection, and to multi-point injection. It sits in countless FIAT models and even Ford KA. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fully_Integrated_Robotised_Engine It's a rock-solid construction and has anywhere from 34 to 180 HP. My Fiat Grande Punto 1,4 16V has it too and I'm very pleased with it. He,he..the angle gauge reminds me of the head job I did on my Fiat Uno back in the 90s...same engine, same procedure. :)
