I've been running the PPE filter in my Duraburb and I've been happy with the results.
@MiddleGroundGarage Жыл бұрын
Ppe has to be larger due to the lower micron level. To keep flow up they need more area because it does restrict in order to catch trash down to 10 micron. Witch will obviously keep said trash out of the engine. Pretty nice set up.

I gave the PPE filter a try and I like the idea of the magnet and increased capacity. I did notice that my oil pressure read a bit lower but nothing too drastic. It does NOT hang down low enough to be a significantly larger target to road debris. I didn’t use it on my last oil change but I’m going back to it next time

Knowing the filter media material composition would be nice (cellulose, synthetic). The longer PPE filter housing would extend below the frame rail exposing it to impacts from gravel… Measure the oil filter housing thickness while you’re at it. Also measure the weight of each filter. I’ve used both the PF66 and UPF66R in my LZ0. Also I use MOBIL 1 ESP X2 0w-20. I recently went on a 2300 mile trip of which 95% was highway driving. I used maybe 2-3 ounces of oil for those concerned with the supposed LZ0 “oil burning” issue.
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the comment on here and I will go deeper with these filters. this video was already 15 minutes long so the deeper details will be ina future video. I disagree with the longer filter and being exposed, I run the PPE for the past 2 oil changes and it is not anywhere near a possible impact nor is it below any rail. I have been seeing more people use that oil now that it is becoming regularly available, I will likely use it in the future as well. The LZ0 "oil burning issue" I still cannot figure out where that came from. There was one guy that mentioned it and that was all I saw. I did videos early on discussing how the lZ0 will burn oil during break in and that is why GM overfilled them from the factory. I used quite a bit during break in but after that, none since.

I like the fact that the Wix endcap end is one piece and does not rely on the leaf spring to seal against an endcap - ensures all the oil goes through the media. Looks to me that of the stock style filters there are likely only 2-3 manufacturers making this part right now. Fram, Delco blue, and K&N look way too similar. It's common when new part designs come out, there's only a couple manufacturers and others purchase rebrands from that manufacturer. I'm sure the filter paper and clearly the core materials vary, but the major aspects are the same.

The Fram Titanium FS12447 is the best filter for the Duramax, if you can find them at a Advance Auto Parts store. They're basically a Fram Endurance in a black can. full synthetic media, silicone ADBV, nylon mesh backing, 99%+ at 20 microns.

I agree but the FS12446 is $16 compared with $10 for the STP. It's a cost/benefit analysis, is the Fram really 60% better for something that's going to be tossed? Invest in quality oil the STP is sufficient.

I find it incredible that the Fram beats the ACDelco blue. They used to use cardboard end caps but now are metal and using silicone anti-drainback valve. Just that beats both ACDelcos for cold weather. Wix's quality has gone down lately but is a better choice than the ACDelcos. The K&N is basically just a standard filter with a nut, not worth the cost. The PPE is just priced itself out from the universe. Currently using PF66 but want a silicone ADBV. On my first oil change, I switched to a Purolator PL11424 PureOne filter & noticed the difference in the inlet holes between the 2 filter (Big Difference). I never paid attention to the oil pressure while running the original original PF 66 - now with the Purolator- at operating temp and at high speed oil pressure is constant at 29 to 30 psi.
@klforrest5737 ай бұрын
Next oil change interval, I will switch back to the PF 66 just to compare oil pressure numbers. Not really a fan of running a filter with just cheesy paper media compared to a high-quality synthetic blend or pure synthetic glass media but this will only be to compare oil pressure numbers.

@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
Hey! Welcome to the family! Your oil pressure will change with engine RPM and it will appear very low, but that’s normal. Your trans temp will likely sit at 197-210 typically. That’s due to the valve in the cooler line. If you see above 225, I would start to feel a little uneasy.

I understand your concern, GM actually had a bulletin come out when the pf66 was unavailable and the wix was one of the filters they were ok with people using in it's place.
