I would figure the newer filters would have better filtration than a filter from the 1990's. In the 90's there wasn't VVT components to protect, and auto manufacturers were not pushing 7,500 mile oil change intervals. Thanks for the video!

Just a heads up on the "new" filter. The rubber O-ring is not held tight in the groove. During installation the O-ring can slip off and cause a massive leak. We had it happen several times here at the dealer. Now we add a little grease in the groove to hold it in place,

Nice comparison Whip, and thanks to John (no Fram) from Yonkers for the filters. I don't like that Champ Labs/ACDelco has removed the outer auxiliary plate from the baseplate. I read "hearsay" that it was because there was some issue with mounting of some new GM. I think it much more likely to save money. The extra plate is to make installation easier in hard to see/reach locations, it works. All the filters have plenty of flow, so not an issue. I know you can't do it now but would like to see a flashlight test on the newest ACDelco, I'm thinking you might see light in the bypass seal area. All the ACDelco look ok to me. Thanks for the vid, have an excellent weekend.

This was one of the most interesting comparisons yet. Personally I prefer the metal core over nylon of the oldest one. Have used the older filters before on my older trucks. My supplier recently stopped carrying AC / Delco filters & now only has Baldwin. I also prefer the bypass valve of the older filter.Sometimes I wish we could combine some of the features of the older filters with the newer ones. I like that the newer filters have more threads on base plate as well as more inlet holes. Nice to see no sloppy glue or assembly work.

Thats been a real problem in the last number of years if your referring to counterfeit parts, made to look like the original manufacture part but is a knock off. And ordering off of some site like Amazon allows for any sort of scumbagery to take place. Counterfeit parts is a HUGE business that would have been almost non existent at one time.

Not sure if the pf63 changed specification or not but the bypass pressure on several applications was raised a few years ago. At least one short vs long filter ( with the same thread/gasket) no longer have the same bypass rating.

All three made by Champion, just different iterations. Still would not use those newest E-Core versions that allow dirty oil to get by the metal t0 metal interface of the end cap and the leaf spring/bypass valve. Remember your flashlight test on that.

I'm not sure the number of holes is significant. I've noticed that very good German filters (Hengst, Mann, Mahle) tend to have fewer holes, sometimes only 4 or 5.

Good to see that everything hasn't become a POS.
@kristianhermann59714 ай бұрын
Thanks for the vid. Everyone raves about number of inlet holes, yet many OE designs make due with just 4-5. I'm not convinced more is necessarily better. More holes means a weaker baseplate and less sealing surface for the ADBV to form a good seal. More holes doesn't mean more flow actually occurs either since the media is generally the most restrictive element. Just my 2 cents.

its a blend with cellulose so its not unusual for cellulose to get darker because of oxidation, same as paper that you leave out for 20 years. it looks in good shape however oxidation tends to weaken the material over time like old news papers tend to be crumbly
