Engine Rebuild Time-Lapse: Opel Kadett Historic Rally Car Build #3

With the engine now removed from my 1980 Opel Kadett I could start preparing the engine bay to receive my 1.3 OHC engine which was rebuilt by Cork Engine Centre a number of years ago, using parts from one that had rallied during the the 80's and 90's and completed 3 Circuit of Ireland rallies. It looked it too, with a very battered sump and what turned out to be a bent crankshaft. After some 'carchaeology' a replacement crank was found, polished and fitted.

what the hack is this stpid people fukin doin? you take the cam of an another engine you destoryed the other engine,,what you do to the old cam thoirw away.. the pother engine could be a good one no ned tp destoryd it has no cam idits. he should repair the crankshaft or if you wanna standard buy a standard cranshast there are racing versiosn of it. now you ahve to chek all marktiming and so one, a huge work...did you checked the deck height of the new crank, or end play ... dammmm you forgot its the cran straightness- dammm cork people are fisherman

He did, after the sonic bath they rinsed it with water. I was surprised too and asked him about it at the time. They get oil on it all soon after so I was assured this was ok.

why bother with a 1,3? a C20NE would be the way to go for a Kadett D. other than that, love the car restoration diary, as I have a Kadett of my own, which is also in the process of restoration at the moment :)

This particular engine has a significant motorsport history and by fitting it to the car it will be eligible for historic rallying which has some nice tight 8 valve classes rather than the more unlimited modified classes you'd have to enter with a 2.0 litre. I quite enjoy pushing a small engine hard, it encourages you to be more committed and the drive train is well within it's tolerances so you get reliable motorsport.

@@mihailbusugin987 я сомневаюсь что за день вы сможете разобрать,отмыть хорошенько всё,расточить блок шлифануть вал и перебрать головку с заменой направляек и притиркой клапанов,после всего этого отмыть просушить и покрасить двигатель в одно рыло!За день вы сможете высыпать с него всё и засыпать заново с заменой колец вкладышей и сальников с прокладками,про мойку и покраску я промолчу.

Если качественно посмотрите видео то не а какой шлефовке речи и не идёт, полировка калена, востоновления сетки хона, и притирка клапанов не ока кой замене направляек в данном видео и не пахнет, только правка седел помыть покрасить дело не хитрое если есть у тебя писко струй и керхер, все отмоеш за час. Покрасить по желанию клиента

Classic Car is a fairly arbitrary term, there is no clear definition. To me this engine is a classic. It has completed 3 Circuit of Ireland Rallies since the eighties. It's out of an extremely rare right hand drive Opel Kadett 1.3 SR. The car it is to is officially designated vintage/veteran for tax purposes, would be eligible for Category 3 Historic Rallying. It's 38 years old, so eight years too old to be a young timer which is generally agreed as up to 30. I believe that the Kadett D as Opel's first front wheel drive car has an important place in the history of bringing cheaper safer and more comfortable motoring to a greater number of people. In class level rallying they were great achievers and were the foundation of glory that was reaped by the Nova/Corsa and Kadett/Astra, SR, GTE and SRi's
