Our 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 was consuming A LOT of oil. Bad piston rings, as well as a plethora of other issues, made its big block 396 engine a perfect candidate for our world-famous Redline Rebuild treatment. Sit back, relax, and try not to blink. You won't want to miss a thing.
Each of these time-lapse videos represents tens of thousands of photos and hundreds of man-hours in an attempt to celebrate the beauty of the internal combustion engine.
Thanks to our sponsor RockAuto.com. "If Clem and Denny don't finish this build by nine tonight, they're gonna have to close the shop and sell their internal organs for money to pay the creditors..." Tiresome, that. Nice to watch talented people build a beautiful thing without manufacturing drama at the same time.

There’s truly nothing to it. Physically tearing down an engine is the easy part, checking for in/out of spec and other measurements are the pain in the ass. Overall it isn’t bad after you’ve done a couple of them. It’s a fun hobby to have, though it can get expensive.

@@galenmarek8287 Yes it can get expensive I took my engine apart because the crank froze, piston 3 conrod bearing was the issue, fixed it and a number of other things in the end nearly $5000 I spent on it and it still is not on the road?

It's not hard at all, just big old fashioned engineering, simple stuff, not hating on these guys or anything, but if you have an interest in the subject it makes it easier, don't get me wrong there is a lot of stuff to get right, but these old engines are not massively difficult, can be stripped down with a basic socket set, as I say no hate on these guys their work is top shelf, always, just made sure tolerances are spot on and everything is torgued up correctly, it's a satisfying hobby, just don't rev the hell out of it and do a burn out the first time you go out in it because these guys run the engine in first out of the car so no harm done here but if you can't run it in outside of the car make sure you are gentle with it for the first 500 to 1000 miles and you will be fine

Man, do I miss my ‘68 Chevelle! When I got it, it had a 307, Powerglide trans, and a 10 bolt diff. When I was done with it, it had a 508, “built” TH400 with a 4000 stall converter, 12 bolt diff with 4.56’s, Strange axles with C-clip eliminator kit, ladder bars & adjustable coil-over shocks. Started out as a street toy, until the first time I took it to the track. As soon as I got home, I ordered slicks and bought a trailer!🤣 Bracket raced it for about 3 years mostly at Gainseville, FL when I lived in Valdosta, GA (yeah, it was quite a drive every Saturday…weather permitting…🙄), and at Orlando, FL, when I lived in Titusville. It was fun to build, and an absolute blast to drive!!😄

Watching your videos take me back to when I was young watching my father rebuild engines I should just sit on a chair or on the table and just watch him turn down to them up then rebuild them.... To the late night when my mother used to come into the garage and tell me it was time for me to go to bed but my father said just to leave me alone as I sat there watch your work on them...

The literal heart of American know how resides in a video put together by Hagerty…one motor that we watch through the discipline and magic of time lapse as it endures tear down and precision rebuild, to the moment a Camaro SS fires up again…all the engineers and mechanics that ever had a hand from inception of that idea to the modern day restoration of that idea, whoa! Hell yeah, that is how it is done!

This is awesome to watch my dad had 3 camaros and a firebird all of them 1967 to 1969 two of them were convertibles. One of my best childhood memories was being on vacation at Vilano beach back in the early 80's and cruising with the top down in a my dads 1967 Camaro orange with white rally stripes. Thats a memory ill never forget!!

Why? It doesn't rob any significant horsepower. The only horsepower loss is from the belt driving the pump which isn't even that much drag anyways.

I love these videos but I yearn for more. The video that you did of I believe this car’s rear end differential was absolutely superb. I have never learned so much about a differential in all my life. This is what I wish you would do with selected rebuilds of engines. Thanks

I read the exact post I wanted to say. These videos would be interesting even without the sweet stop motion little add ins. They're so good and executed so cleanly! I have seen them all a few times. I almost want to just do this for a living now. Keep up the awesome work! I love it
