Join in with the Restored Crew as they jump into Part Two of this abandoned "Sleepin' Lincoln". With further examination and the help from our watchers, the team decides to further investigate the original 430 V8 to see if there is any sliver of hope left in it. Removing it from its resting place of over 60 years, the guys remove the heart of this ol' girl to see if a rebuild is the route to go to see her back on the road again. While taking it a step further, the crew challenges the destiny of a 5.9L Cummins Diesel from an abandoned Dodge, to compare what options they might have. Will this girl get a new heart transplant, or will this be the final destination of this forgotten motorhome?

I would recommend the 430. Lighter and smaller and you know it fits.
@kevinshiley9061
@kevinshiley9061 9 ай бұрын
It is smaller and a bit lighter but it has a cast iron transmission case that most likely makes up the difference! That motor needs a complete rebuild and most likely the transmission too. If the diesel is a bit too tall, a hood scoop could solve that.

What's weird is that there are more of them. Last year I saw one in Homestead, Fl on it's way back to the Tampa area, broken down. We spoke with the guys, was up close to it. It was a 1959, same colors, same camper top, thought it was this one, but the front bumper had those parking lights out at the edge of the bumper, so somebody back when decided to make a few campers.

They finally decided he has necrotizing bone. Which means the bone is dying. It was prevented from getting blood supply when he was injured. They said there is no cure, but we know that God can cure. Structure wise, that camper is probably trash and not structurally sound. Those walls have thin pieces of wood that rot into dust when repeatedly exposed to water. I can't imagine that shell being saved the way it looks inside.

@@cadiman56 probably is aluminum siding but the internal structure between the shell and paneling is usually small pieces of wood. That interior is shot from a lot of water damage so I can only imagine what it looks like behind the paneling. I wanted to buy and restore an old travel trailer once but started watching videos and saw it was way over my skill level if the inside walls were shot. I've seen a video of a guy pulling bottom trim from the outside of a travel trailer and the inside of the wall came out in a pile of wood dust. It was that moment I decided I'd have to pass on that. Much like an old house, you don't know what you're getting into until you start opening walls.

I am building a 31' Prowler travel trailer over to live in so am pretty familiar with all the camper problems as I have all of them too but I am also a big fan of 60-62 Lincolns especially those canted headlights. That's real style. And the interior was luxury combined with the look of the future so I'm in favor of both ends of this project. I recommend Advantech to replace that floor. Durable and guaranteed. Will watch episode 2. Good luck, you'll need it.

I think the 12 valve is gonna be awesome for this thing. I think the torque from the diesel is going to be a huge benefit to it! Honestly, if you ended up having to go the 430 route, it feels like you'd just be better off trying to find another 430 in better condition instead of trying to rebuild the one you've got because it just looks so far gone. But man, I cannot wait to see this thing all fixed up. I've never seen anything quite like it and it looks so freakin' cool.

I think the biggest huddle will actually be mounting a Radiator with the Diesel. If you can get the transmission more under the car it looks like it should fit in that engine bay like a glove. the trick will be A/C rigging the camper so you guys can survive in the Texas heat while styling in that Vintage 50's Retro Camper.

I look forward to all the hiccups that might appear, that you can work through to make this project work! That Cummins purrs as it should, so with a fresh transmission, I have no doubts that the camper will haul with no issues with the power of the diesel. The mounts for the engine, looks like some measuring and welding will be needed, so if you're up to it, let's get 'er done!

So glad to see this beast with potential life, pretty unique, would be so happy to see the original engine installed ( matching #'s and all that), dunno if I like the idea of a diesel swap (as I think it being a camper unit it'd end up smelling like a fishboat/semi thing). About as aerodynamic as a brick, if a man were to think about a rebuild on the camper part, and its not going to be properly restored, one might consider ripping everything from the deck up and either find another, more modern/rounded thing, and/or fabricating a 'somethin'' special camper, this has so much potential but, as we all know, how much time and money do you want to spend? (Bad Chad would have a field day with that one lol) Love watching ya'll working on things like this, but you always make me miss my dad. Cheers from your fans in BC Can.!

I say a used mustang coyote 5.0 engine. Compared to the 430. It's lighter, has alot more power and even better fuel economy. A big concern with the 5.9 is that the extra weight could cause the unibody to fold in half if you ever lift the front end up high. Just like you did to get at the transmission out. What ever you decide. I hope you eventually paint the car a more appealing two tone paint job then the boring two tone it currently has.
