4:49 "And your driver and fireman shall take you to pieces, that will make a very interesting picture, just what we need!" Sir Handel's feelings were beyond words

The reason for the narrow wheel treads is because basically the Three Falcons were Tram engines in essence and tram engine wheels are always narrow to avoid the outer edges of the wheels catching the cobbles that are flush with the outside of the rails on roadways.

It’s incredible how these little engines were the ones who practically wrote the stories and Awdry simply adapted them! One day I hope to come and see Sir Hayden and the other Talyllyn locos in person. But only time will tell when that happens.

This is the one I was looking forward to the most. Sir Haydn pulled my train when I visited in June 2022. According to Tom Rolt, volunteers had to choose between No. 3 and No. 4 before the 1951 season and chose No. 3 because it was easier to refurbish and get back into working order. There was no time or man-hours to keep both them AND Dolgoch in service. Of course, fate had other plans and Dolgoch had to pick up the slack. Here's to many more years to reliable running!

4:38 Is that what inspired Sir Hansel’s plan in New little engine?
@JoesAnimationHub2 жыл бұрын
I'd be more inclined to believe it's "Little Old Twins" from the book "The Little Old Engine"... "...and you're Driver and Fireman shall take you to pieces, that'll make a very interesting picture; just what we need" also note, it was during the time of Sir Hadyn's incapacitation, that the Beeb visited the Talyllyn and combine that with how very little of Sir Handel is seen in the following book, "Gallant Old Engine", reflective of No.3's brief return in '57, as the book focuses mostly on Peter Sam, Duncan and Skarloey (archive footage shows Talyllyn, Edward Thomas and Douglas were left handling traffic in the late 50's to early 60's after Talyllyn returned). Many of the accounts in the books with the Reverend were usually tied with his volunteering days at the Talyllyn (many of which he learnt from people like L.T.C Rolt)

Here’s an interesting topic for another video - locos that could have been or were considered for the Talyllyn railway. These could include Talybont that eventually went to the Rheidol, the Kerr Stuart from 1913 that was never built, and the Tattoo Gwendolyn that was left on a mountain.
@JonsGarage892 жыл бұрын
Do you have more info about the one left on the mountain?
@itsconnorstime2 жыл бұрын
@@JonsGarage89 The Penwyllt silica brick company had a 2,3 gauge railway and a Tattoo class called Gwendolen. When the line closed the engine was left in its shed on top of the incline, and was pursued by the Talyllyn as a source of spares for Edward Thomas. Unfortunately it fell down the incline while being moved and was scrapped.

Hopefully, the next engine story will Dolgoch. This Old Lady as the engine is called is important to the Talyllyn Railway because it kept the railway going even though the railway was reaching its last leg while Dolgoch was almost worn out.

At Talyllyn - Sir Hayden Mid Sodor Railway/Skarloey Railway - Sir Handel (formerly Falcon) Corris Railway - New build Falcon engine (Albert from the Mid Sodor Railway) So if Sir Handel (formerly Falcon) behaved during Mid Sodor Railway and Skarloey Railway, does that mean Albert (the engine that worked with Duke in the early days) is back to not cooperate with his crew after “taken a part and used as spares” despite Sir Handel/Falcon replaced Albert
