Check that the spring is in the throttle arm correctly.

My 73 stinger johson is new to me I'm not seeing water out the exhaust ports in nuetral the motor seems to be hot on long seafoam flush run.
@ct17624 жыл бұрын
did you inspect the water pump, thermostats and make sure the poppet valve grommets aren't leaking? stop using that seafoam stuff. use omc/brp engine tuner into a warm engine only and let it soak.

my 1978 70 hp would not start or stay running at idle, i clean this linkage and now it works. the spark advance was so sticky, i had replaced plugs and fuel line, fixed fuel connections, and was totally frustrated. now i need to clean the road dust from more moving linkage, and i should be good to go. it idles and starts great, but 'bogs' on acceleration. here's hoping.

That should just pull off one the bolt is removed.

timer base needs to be free and super smooth in its action. cam roller needs to open throttle plates when it passes center of 1st hash mark on throttle cam. sounds like your roller is jammed up against the cam because you tried to adjust it with the shift cable connected (dderrrrr!)

I’ve got a 82 75hp Johnson is idles fine and bogs off idle under load. If you slowly move the throttle till engine picks ups and it accelerates to full from there and runs perfect at wot. Any suggestions on where I should start checking and adjusting. Have also found a couple small fuel leaks and a gasket missing between the air intake but haven’t ran the engine since I’ve found the leaks

Most times its starving for fuel. Take the carbs off and rebuild them. Then google sync and link procedures to set the carbs up properly with the timing

Mine sticks to, if I take that bolt off will it come off with out the spring shooting out and is it easy to put together. The spark advance without taken off flywheel can I shoot oil up underneath without having problems. What kind of grease do you use.
@TheMarineDoctor3 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the arm. Sometimes the spring pops out. It might be a good idea to take it apart anyway and clean it. Any NLGI rated GC-LB grease will do fine. Yes. Oil can be sprayed.
@johnsowders1630 Жыл бұрын
Did u take yours apart if so did the spring come out ? Am getting ready to do mine just curious if the spring will fly out! Thanks

its called the spark advance lever, mercury calls a sensor coil a "trigger" as it trips the switches in the power pack
