My Dad just turned 100...he has lived on mostly plant based diet for 40 yrs and cycled around the world with my Mom for their retirement. He still has all of his teeth and is not on any medication. He just stopped cycling at 99...my Mom was sadly killed by a motor cycle in New Zealand 20 yrs ago but I am sure she would still be a healthy senior as well if that had not happened. Plant based is the way to go

A GP in a small town was seen for a cough that my husband had that would not go away. This dr said he thought my husband had angina. and scheduled a stress test. my husband failed his stress test. after a minute they stopped it because he needed oxygen. so they wanted a cath....where they discovered 4 blockages from 70- 90 %. The medical personnel wouldn't release him. He went from this local hospital to the larger regional hospital by ambulance and had 4 bypasses the next morning. From what you just said this surgery could have been avoided. At the time I thought so too but couldn't convince my husband to eat wfpb. still can't convince him to stop eating animal products.

So sorry that your husband went through all of that, Linda, but glad he sought care and came through his treatment. As Dr. Asbill shares, it is very hard to halt conventional treatments and to prescribe lifestyle. Doctors have to be trained on how to counsel patients correctly and patients must be willing to take responsibility for their daily habits. Our aim is to educate as many people as possible so they know what other options exist before they end up in the hospital. Hopefully, our message helps people avoid the hospital altogether. Keep trying with your husband! You never know when he might decide to give plants a try!

I went Whole Food Plant Based Vegan two years ago. My health was not bad but I have low thyroid and was very overweight. I lost weight -still need to lose more, but I feel fantastic and energy levels are amazing! I live with my husband (60)and mother in law(84) both of who I love dearly. Both have the worst diet. Right now my Mother In Law is in the hospital after having her sixth stroke and diagnosed with severe atherosclerotic heart disease this time. My husband is following in her foot steps... same problems, some of the same meds and shuts anything I say out! I am 65 and I feel younger than I have ten or twenty years ago. He is 60 years old. I have just about given up on helping him!

I really liked this video. Thanks! I wish you could make a video on why you include fish as a bad food. It has been shown that a plant based diet with fatty fish beats every other in terms of health and longevity. If you look at the work of Dr. Michael Lustgarten, he shows that his biomarkers were actually going in the wrong direction until the inclusion of sardines in his diet. Fish is a healthy staple of many long-lived populations. Also, I have noticed that Dr. Esselstyn appears to have some discomfort every time I see him talk lately (GERD or acid reflux). I hope he is ok! Thanks again.

There are many reasons why fish is in the same category as other animal products. Here's an excerpt from Rip's book, The Engine 2 Seven-Day Rescue Diet. "The Diet and Angina Randomized Trial (DART-2), which followed more than 3,000 men, found that participants told “to eat oily fish or take fish oil” actually had a higher risk of cardiac death than those who were not instructed to do so. Moreover, a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute determined that men with high amounts of the long-chain omega 3 fat DHA in their blood-which is found in many fish oil supplements-had a higher risk of developing prostate cancer compared to men with low amounts of DHA in their blood." For more information, please see Rip's book.

Fantastic presentation! Thank you for inspiring us all! Congratulations to Jim on his success into health. I just subscribed to Plantstrong on you-tube and have been watching many of Rip's podcasts. I am enjoying them very much. I have been pescatarian for 32 years, but have pretty much given up fish for awhile now, and still eat egg whites and low fat dairy occasionally. I have always thought that WFPB was the most effective diet for heart disease prevention, having read Dr. Ornish's books in the 1990's, as my mother had a quadruple CABG at age 43 and she died at age 53 of ASHD and lung cancer. I was vegan for a year at one point (except for 1/2 cup low fat ice cream daily) to try to get off the statin, but even though my numbers improved, the diet wasn't enough to get off the statin. Strangely, my triglycerides went up to 155. I am 65, female, with BMI 20.9 and I take meds for HTN, a-fib, and hyperlipidemia. This video has inspired me to move forward with eliminating egg and dairy products due to the harm to the endothelial cells caused by those foods. I have my copy of Dr Essy's book and will be reading it. I've watched many videos with Dr. Ornish, Dr William Li, Dr Barnard, Dr McDougall and Dr Greger on you-tube, and am gaining knowledge. I have read many of their books. I am presently in the middle of a low FODMAP diet elimination phase for IBS, which is complicated, but I'm doing well. It has helped. Thank goodness greens and other vegetables and fruits that I enjoy are allowed. I would love to see a book by one of the doctors I mentioned on whole foods plant based diet for IBS because they are my most trusted resources for nutritional information.

I workout, all kinds of exercises, treadmill, the works. I am retired so I think instead of sitting down I have all day to be just as active as when I worked. June 8th I was diagnosed with heart failure ejection fraction of 25%. My ejection fraction was 55-60 after my SCA. I am devastated! I feel great. Just got a little winded and kinda on the ho hum side. Just thought it was about being bored because we wasn't going anywhere. Can this way of living help get my ejection fraction back up? I didn’t go in and I saw my doctor 3 days later and he said that he can’t test me to see if it was a stroke and he believes that it was just my FND. It took me about 9 months to be able to walk without my walker. I’ve managed to lower my BP but when they say that 140/80 is normal it’s never been normal for me. I’ve always been between 100-119/80. I’m currently on week 4 of a plant based diet and while it’s not entirely clean ( I will make 2 meals a week with Impossible meat or sausage substitute) I have noticed a difference in my energy. I’m kind of using myself as a test to see if I can reverse FND and cardiovascular issues. I am going towards Plant Strong. I am oil & sugar free and I’m also trying to go gluten and yeast free since it cause’s bloating, joint pain, muscle weakness, lethargy, and stuttering. There’s just really nothing out there on FND and diet.

You can also get frozen and use that! I love adding frozen spinach or kale into things. Frozen riced cauliflower is also completely awesome for getting good nutrition. I use riced cauliflower all over the place, mixing it in with grains.

Any advice on what you can you do if you live in a country where the public water supply is fluoridated but you can't afford to buy bottled water or a water filter? And/or you have fluoride seals or glass ionomer fillings in your teeth in an attempt to avoid mercury fillings? Is it pointless to do the protocol then, or would you still derive some benefit by avoiding fluoridated toothpaste and mouthwash?

You know how Mrs Obama's school program went over, most of the food was in the trash. What happened, does anyone know? If that problem could have been solved as to why the food was not acceptable to the students, we could have made some progress.

Please cite the research against fluoride in the drinking water and toothpaste? Texas and the Southwest run around 8 ppm in the water, Africa goes as high as 65 ppm, naturally occurring. Same atom (yes it's up on the periodic chart). Water fluoridation is at 1 ppm. The dose makes the poison.

That is better than white flour, but any grain that is ground increases the glycemic load, so it is better to limit how much of it you eat.

Hi Mike! It's true, our original products are no longer available at Whole Foods Market, but we recently launched plantstrongfoods.com to provide customers access to their favorites and to introduce new products as well. Ravioli were discontinued - no one is more sad than our team - but we have lots of new products coming soon, including a return to Whole Foods Market with broths, chilis and stews! Stay tuned!

Would love to know what alternative milk you recommend? I use almond milk, and I know nuts are out, coconut is out, what about Hemp? Also, I know oil is out, I've been using avocado, but would flax, algae or hemp oil, be ok for grilling veggies, and salad dressing? What if you are gluten intolerant, and your doc wants you to stay away from all grains? Thank you for the advice!

I love your tips...but i am perplexed by some of your advice I have heard you guys give. You want me to get rid of flouride toothpaste...which has hardened my "soft" teeth... then slather my teeth several times a day with heavy acid...so how long am I going to be able to have teeth for chewing anything...not long I am afraid. Anyway...you have so much here that is helpful I would love to join the network you spoke of. I don't know anyone who does this lifestyle. Is there information about how?

@@leonieduplessis4467 Leonie I really appreciate your response. I did research that method and after finding Dr greger's video about studies re: it in which they showed that this actually removed a protective film from the teeth and made cavity formation mote likely and that there were incidences of people aspirating tiny droplets of oil and contracting pneumonia..i demurred from trying that.
