Great video Jim, running well! I have found that these boilers if only half filled with water will give you a balanced time between the fuel and steam runout, filling much more takes a lot longer to get up to steam, and the fuel runs out too soon. Best Regards. Ade

@@SteamEngines-Jim sounds bad, why cant we all have a happy medium, freezing in my freezer chest workshop, its alway 5 degrees cooler than the outside temp. of 3 degrees
@SteamEngines-Jim24 күн бұрын
@@MrFactotum Kev, I can't even imagine feeling coldness at that temperature, totally agree with your thoughts.....a nice 18° would suit me nicely! Worst thing about Oz is that summers are 9 months and at the height of it be in the 30s all night :(

It's a nice sounding engine, does sound heavy duty and 'truck like'. The staino wicks are interesting as they shouldn't ever need to be replaced?

I tried to steam mine but it wouldn’t go, whistle leaks and I think my valve timing is off, I’ll try and sort that
@SteamEngines-Jim24 күн бұрын
James be careful unscrewing the front glass as both boiler end caps are only held on by the boiler stay and made water proof by two 'O" rings, works well though. My whistle leaked as well. They are screwed down into an insert into the boiler and mine (and the SV) needed tightening. When I adjusted the whistle up a little its LOUD!!! - Cheers Jim
@steambom335024 күн бұрын
I'm stunned that such a tiny boiler can provide enough steam to turn that thing over. The whistle is half as big as the boiler diameter for crying out loud, that's absurd
@SteamEngines-Jim24 күн бұрын
Its a small boiler, but those stainless wicks are HOT drawing up and burning off the metho (spirits) need to be careful to keep an eye on the boiler to not run dry. It only holds enough water for a 9-10 minute run - Cheers Jim

If that's only an LED, it shouldn't load up the dynamo as much as its doing!

G'day Gary it 'looks' like just a simple LED? I was super surprised at the load it put on the genny - Cheers Jim

@@SteamEngines-Jim I have dynamos with leds, and when switched on, show no apparent load on the dynamo, or the engine driving it, as the current is only Milliamps!
@SteamEngines-Jim24 күн бұрын
@@anythingoldmechanical Very strange isn't it Gary, I'll have to get some time with my multimeter as you could see the load instantly put on the genny when that switch was put on. All the very best for Christmas to yourself and family and a Safe, Happy & Prosperous New Year - Cheers Jim

Merry Christmas to you too Jim, and a great 2025. Look at the efficiency of this generator on my channel. This is how it should effect a steam engine.. ZERO! I would love some of the lamp posts if available seperately? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jV7cepaEaayCrdksi=bD3-Fb2ghWyAhxF2 Kind regards, Gary
@SteamEngines-Jim22 күн бұрын
Gary all the gennys that I have put a load on and I can see and feel the load applied even with my fairly large Jensen model steam engines but they are running small wattage incandescent bulbs. Its weird to me that this tiny LED? bulb really makes that genny work so hard. They should sell these lamp posts separately (I've mentioned it to them) they are superb heavy quality brass construction and they would sell a gazillion of them for steam, gas and train hobbyists.
