In this video I make a jointed swimbait from cherry wood. This is a trolling lure that I intend to shape as a blue mackerel. www.amazon.com/shop/engineere...

I'm afraid I goofed the description of the calculation in this video and I have confused most of you. I have a more thorough, and accurate, description in the up-coming video that will post on Wednesday morning. Sorry🤪

I think it was very clear, thank you! A Question: your 25% increase on the 10g weight is for a mid-water lure? What about a bottom water lure? I struggled with this question for my last build: is there a rule (of thumb as well) for how much a lure should weigh more than the displaced water for a different level of sinking (mid-water/bottom)? As always, thank you for your detailed explanations, they help a great deal a rooky like me!

That is a winner, I really like it. Do you think feathers for a tail would hurt the action? Anything will dampen the action some but two feathers may not be to bad? Looking forward to the next video to see it finished.

As a teacher, I use a white board every day. I'm wondering if you've ever used WET erase markers as opposed to DRY erase? Not a huge deal, but it's nice to draw over it, or putting a straight edge over an existing drawing without smudging or erasing it. A damp paper towel will wipe it right off.
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 2 жыл бұрын
I do use wet erase for fixed lines on occasion when I need A-line that won't be smudged. But all those drawings I do are free hand and at the moment that I want them so I need to be able to erase quickly and make small corrections.

This going to a great build. Can’t wait to see the finish. Wonder if you group three together in a harness while trolling. You might generate more action. We do this is rig on Lake Machine with some success.

I believe Franco has discussed this in an earlier video, that to the contrary if you want to make a good sinking lure you want a blank material with relatively high buoyancy. Hopefully I'm not misquoting here🙏🙏
@EngineeredAngler
@EngineeredAngler 2 жыл бұрын
Your right, but like anything it really depends on what you are trying to get out of your lure. If all you're looking for is a lure that rockets to the bottom, there's no need to finesse the buoyancy/weight relationship. But if you are trying to get a specific swimming behavior, you'll likely want to start with a buoyant material.

That action in the pond looks deadly for snook around bridges or seawalls. A ladyfish shaped lure like that would probably be awesome, so would an imitation of ballyhoo and needlefish with joints. I'd love to see the one in the video getting trolled offshore, from my experience it should work great.

Nice, very nice - great action! Thanks for posting! Definitely want to make a bunch of swim baits. Just finished my UV turner so I'm all set. Went through the re-sawing of logs into boards a couple of days ago - got a good stock of hardwoods and softwoods stickered in the basement. T'was a bit "fresh" here this morning as well... minus 29 C, about 20 below F and they are forecasting 15 to 20 inches of snow. Yeah, winter in Canada 😀

I like to take a small drill bit and drill a hole through the lures I make to make sure the center of the eye socket lines up on both sides
@pakde8002
@pakde8002 2 жыл бұрын
Yep that's a good trick if you can drill straight 😂😂😂 I often use that trick but have actually messed it up a time or two. One added trick if you're prone to uh oh moments like me is to drill through the blank before doing any shaping of the sides.
@theinvasivespecies1119
@theinvasivespecies1119 2 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking, if you put that on the lathe you could turn the top and bottom equally while the sides would remain flat since you are turning not a perfectly square piece of wood.

Hey Franco, you lost me with the Math portion. 37.83g wood, + 5.11g and 4.98g = 47.92g plus your 12.86g lead = 60.78. Of course this is still just over the ~56.4g water you are displacing. So in the end if it works it works but i just could not follow the path that you laid out. i could not figure out where 66.49g comes in Love the video, I fish a lot for striped bass which love mackerel so i'll be trying to make a similar lure for sure.

Hi Franco. How are you? I was wondering, do you think the dollar store epoxy adhesives are of decent quality? It seems to go off kind of hard. Like glass, if you know what I mean? If I lift the corner of it, after set, it breaks into chards. Have you done any comparisons to the different types? Thank you for the work. Warm regards, Cam.
