Popping in to say thanks for all your information. Now to start from scratch and figure out exactly how with my main design some worked like a charm and fish attacked, and others wobbled/wibbled/worbled all over. Tried the CD Disc lure, I screwed that up from the beginning, so took some Solarez Flexible UV and put two coats on the Disc, peeled off the film and then 5 min epoxied to a lure. So I am all excited again with new ideas, thanks Franco

like your thinking, myself..I have used hollow body soft lures, filled them with catfish stink bait (put a small hole near top of lure to relieve back pressure when filling) with empitied caulk tube refilled with the bait. this allowed the bait to slowly empty from the lure and attracted the fish..worked verywell
@comfortablynumb9342 Жыл бұрын
I just bought a plastic box with a gasket for storing my Gulp collection. Up here around the Chesapeake it's super popular because it gets bites. But it's expensive. Is there any chance of making a DIY version? FishBites Dirty Boxers are supposed to be very similar but tougher. Tougher would be better because Gulp gets destroyed by tail biters. And the FishBites kind aren't ever in stores. If we can't make an effective copy of Gulp I have some other ideas for soft plastics to make them absorb scents better. Regular PVC doesn't soak up the good stink.

Just come to this channel again and to say this: Im inspired by your passion on lure making and I bought a 3D printer 2-3 months ago, I have made my own lure from scratch after all the grinding in 3D modeling/material test/structural design/weight balancing etc. Thank you

Very cool! 🤯 I can imagine freshwater jig heads being made in half ounce sizes using a scent chamber instead of a rattle chamber. Can imagine how many more summertime bites it would generate.

For you “question of the day”….how would you apply you pledge floor wax and then the polycrylic mid coat? Would you dip straight into a container or would you spray with reducer? Thank you.

I just don't see this stuff in Scotland, I've watched Marling baits for years now but I'm really enjoying the way your explaining the physics on how lures work. Both brilliant but completely different lure makers.

A little off topic, but I can’t seem to get a clear answer, maybe you can help: what would be a good brand, or model for an in-line moisture trap and a trap that attaches to the gun? Thanks so much. Really enjoyed your reviews on UV!
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
What moisture? What gun? I'm not sure what you're asking.
@aaronbyers1391 Жыл бұрын
I am using a Avanti air compressor and an Iwata Eclipse airbrush. I have the moisture trap that comes on the compressor. Wondering if there was a good brand that make an in line moisture trap for along the hose and another trap that attaches directly to the base of the Iwata Eclipse. If not, that’s fine, just asking.

Thank you for another inspiring video! I do have a question related to your question of the week: If I’m using the minwax polycrylic as a mid coat, could I apply air brush acrylic paints over it and would the acrylic paint adhere well to it? The reason I’m asking is that I’ve been sealing my saltwater wood lures with two part epoxy. After curing I’ve been scuffing them up, and then applying my airbrush paints. Only concern is that the weakest link in all this seems to be the bond between the epoxy sealer and acrylic paint base coat. I’m wondering if I’d get a stronger bond applying the polycrylic between the epoxy seal coat and acrylic paint? Or would Pledge provide a better bond??
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
I think scuffed up two part epoxy is about as good a surface as you'll get.
@jtaylor9388 Жыл бұрын
@@EngineeredAngler thank you for your prompt reply. However, I’m more concerned with how well the acrylic airbrush paint will adhere to the polycrylic that I put over the scuffed up epoxy?

Is it possible to make a bibbed walk the dog lure. A successful lure would dive maybe 5 meters and be able to WTD action.
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
Not really....the action from the bib would overpower any WTD tendency. I make countdown twitch-baits that I weight so the will WTD at what ever depth I let them sink to. Its one of my secret weapons in redfish tournaments.
@aaronbyers1391 Жыл бұрын
How would you apply the floor Pledge and the minwax?
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
I use the pledge to protect Chrome paint. And I use the minwax to seal regular airbrush paint. So if I Chrome paint then I would apply pledge and I might paint over that and then apply minwax over the paint. And finally a clear coat as the final coat.
@comfortablynumb9342 Жыл бұрын
Those lures look like they should be good for slow pitch or maybe fast pitch vertical jigging in deep water. And they should be awesome for mackerel if you cast them. Cool. I'd love to know how much the Gulp sauce helps.
@mikewasniewski4048 Жыл бұрын
Maybe squeeze the back end a little to "crimp" the green foam in place.
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
That stuff is not budging, but that's a good Idea if I have issues.
@FreedomFishing Жыл бұрын
What does moisture in the air do to a casting that was cast outside? Does the urethane take on moisture from the air and make the end product less bouyant?
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
Not really too much. High humidity can make the casting resin set up a little faster which can promote more captured bubbles but the difference is pretty small....usually.

@@EngineeredAngler cheers to youtube notifications not telling me you responded. 😂 Thank you! I figured out my problem. I cleaned my platinum silicone mold with water and isopropyl alcohol, and didn't let it dry fully. Two items that are incompatible with the Model Pro. I really need to read the MSDS more thoroughly.

Hey Franco! Love the channel! I have a question regarding wire diameter. Do you use the same diameter for all your lures or do you use smaller diameters for smaller lures? I'm looking into making tiny finesse jerkbaits, cranks, poppers, etc and curious on what would be a good diameter. Thanks!
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
I do down size the wire for smaller lures. Typically I use #12 wire witch is about 0.026 in. diameter. For smaller lures I'll go down to 0.02 and larger I'll go as big as 0.045in. diameter.
@europeanian4205 Жыл бұрын

Suggestion: drill a few holes about 1/4" from the end of the jig and put a screw cap at the end in which you can drill a few holes as well and then sand that screw cap to a degree to get some angle, that way fluid dynamics may help a little bit with gulp delivery and you don't risk losing a that "sponge" in the water.
@dkmd9227 Жыл бұрын
Or maybe even pinch the end flat and use that portion for split ring/ tail hook. There would be enough of a gap to allow for stinky leakage. 😁 They’d become more or less disposable at that point, but then you get to make more.
@mipa6028 Жыл бұрын
two questions: why don’t you use gloves when painting? how much space do you leave between the holes on metal lures like that and the outside wall? it always seems awfully close when you do it.
@EngineeredAngler Жыл бұрын
I don't use gloves because the paint is water based and comes right off with a bit of soap and water. I leave 1/32 of an inch...it looks closer after I counter sink. I leave a bit more on the tail eye since the metal is not double thickness like it is up front.
