I learned to drive one of our gun trucks in Viet Nam. I was not an assigned driver because I didn't have a valid driver's license at that time. The truck suffered some considerable damage from an accident. But still ran. My buddies taught me how to use the clutch. And after that, I was using it to transport water from the water station to our barracks. Oh, I did not cause the accident, another driver did. Talking about a pretty tough and reliable truck, it certainly, was.

And someone to explain the reason of the NDT
@majmikecalnan2 жыл бұрын
Nicely done review of the M35. 😊👍 One observation: NDT tyres were not designed to fool the enemy. Any competent observer can tell which way the truck was going regardless of directional or non-directional tyres. The primary advantage of non-directional tyres is that they may be used on any wheel station. With directional tyres, they may only be used on one side or the other unless the rims were symmetrical, which is very rare as offset rims are far more common, such as these on the Deuce.

I have been researching these and the newer 5 ton trucks with the idea of maybe getting one. I have to say that your truck is spectacularly clean, compared to others I have seen. And, your explanation is spot on. Thank you.

By 1970 several of these were fitted with power steering. Many military vehicle engines were typically detuned to provide more reliability for tactical missions. They could easily be bumped up in power though.

Great video. The transfer case is 2 speed manual shift. the front axle engagement is air shift. The transmission shift pattern was modified so the Soldiers A, B,C. fit into the cab for longer distance comfort.

You can burn other fuels but ideally you should change the injectors. Just speaking from experience wrenching on these in Viet Nam.

The m35 spanned all of the years. M35a2 was late 60s. The a2 upgrade was the super turbocharged multi fuel. The overdrive spicer 5 and the air shift transfer Case. Before they were mogas no over drive and Sprague's in the transfer case kicked it in. At between 7 and 9 percent wheel slip and full lock in low range. The reason they went airshift is because if the Sprague's were bad you would have no 6x even in low

You should put a good coat of grease on that winch cable, then a heavy-duty canvas covering over the cable and winch.
@jeff_hartline_usa6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Definitely keep that winch cable greased. I have heard that the canvas cover can trap moisture. Didn't see many canvas winch covers in active duty.
