Hello everybody. I have a Deuce that belonged to the Brazilian Army. Here it is just called REO M-35. It was manufactured in 1963, used by the US Army and sold to Brazil as a surplus. It served my country's land force for many years until it was decommissioned and auctioned. Today he is at the service of our college here. It is the school's mascot and adored by our students. I am very happy to see so many enthusiasts around the world of this magnificent truck.

I have a 1968 M35A2. I love my truck. I use it and abuse it moving things around my property and running errands. It was my daily driver for the first year I owned it.

Love driving mine. It has become sort of a local celebrity. Getting flood victims out of their homes and clearing downed trees. They respond well to fuel pump adjustments. Mine doesn't care what you put in the bed. It just rides smoother with 6 ton of gravel in it.

The pinions, front and rear are not to add axles, but to make the axles interchangeable. All 3 axles are the same, with a front and rear pinion. You can take any of the 3 axles and put it in any position, front or rear. You bust an axle, you just take any good axle off another busted truck. COOL RIDE!

You don't put a steer axle in any position. You can, however, take the center section and put it in any position.

I drove an M35A2 in the army. Even in sub-zero weather, we never used ether to start. Ours had a glow plug set up that pre-heated the fuel. When nothing else would start, the Deuce would.

Agreed Charles. I don’t have starting fluid in mine and even running on straight used motor oil, it’ll start in the cold. The coldest I’ve started it was about -10F and it popped right off. 22-1 compression seems to make a heck of a lot of heat when starting. I just hold the fuel cut while cranking it to warm the piston crowns for about 5 seconds and then let her go and she pops right off. 👍

These Trucks are fairly cheap to purchase, and extremely cheap to insure as well. They are fairly dependable, but slow on the roads with a max speed of approx 55 mph, downhill with a strong tail wind pushing you. But they are extremely loud inside the cab, since the exhaust pipe runs right up from the engine directly at the right front cab corner. Good hearing Protection is highly recommended if you plan on driving any length of time and distance. They can be great multi use platforms, ranging from Troop/Cargo Carriers to Water/Fuel Trucks, Dump Trucks, Medium Duty Tow Trucks, Plow Trucks, and, one could even improvise one into the ULTIMATE BOV/APPOCOLYPSE ESCAPE TRUCK, OFF ROAD CAMPER TRUCK, and yes, there are even Fire Depts on Long Island, NY, and in Pennsylvania, and other States that have them set up as Brush/Forest Fire Trucks, aka, Stump Jumpers as they are called, and High Water Rescue Trucks. In short, these Trucks can be used in virtually any kind of scenario that one could possibly think of.

​@@IG107055 grand for a deuce is a hell of a lot cheaper than what brand new pickups are selling for, they are close to $100,000 now, depending on what size you want, and what it has in it. Insurance for a deuce is pennies on the dollar, because the deuce is virtually indestructible.

That truck brought back some fun memories. I drove one and a 109 van when I was in the army. For those who don’t know what a 109 van is it’s a deuce with box on the back to make it a portable shop. It has a big shop table, cabinets and heat in it. Some people covert them to overland campers. I loved them both. Great truck dude and thanks for the memories.

I've got many miles of driving a Deuce when I served. !0 wheel drive at the flip of a switch (it will knock smaller trees down!) and snuck me off to some good fishing places no other truck could (Shhhh they frown on that), the Jeeps were fun too.

You can purachase a kit for these trucks that will tie your air into the steering system to give you air assisted Steering, which is almost as good as regular power steering.

@@garymathena2125 I personally have never had a problem steering one, I only made the comment because when I used to live in Berks County, Pennsylvania, most of the Fire Companies had them as Brush Trucks, and most of them had the trucks retrofitted with the air assist power steering. The Deuce is not all that hard to turn, even without power steering. I have driven old dodges from the early 60's that did not have it, and they were a bit of a bitch to try and turn around in tight spaces, especially if you were stopped

Couple of things, that's a 24v system, not 12. You can run gasoline, but you have to use a 15:1 ratio of gas to oil to lubricate the injectors.

Very thorough video. Good condition of the truck considering the age. Drove non military versions of this thing at the airport. Had a lot of experiences with 30's on up in vehicles. From hand cranking engines to modern systems. Good times. :)

I learned how to drive one and a sixteen wheeler and a jeep in one day in1969. They needed drivers I guess. I asked the instructor how much longer to get a explosive carrying license and he said 5 days but we need you guys tomorrow so he just gave me one. Good old days.

Sweet truck man. I got to drive a newer one a month before I graduated high school in colorado. It was the best day of my life and did not stop smiling the whole time. I think it has a stronger engine but it has an automatic transmission(I would have preferred a manual), it's super torquey and the breaks were pretty touchy. I drove it offroad over some large gravel/dirt/boulder piles. They are super capable trucks. I don't currently own one but ever since I drove it I've always wanted to own one. Edit: The color of the truck is desert tan.

Had 20 of these in my unit in 1971 and none of them had over 100 miles on them with a few just broken in. I would like to say that when these were new they smelled pretty bad compared to any new car smell and most of ours had the huge winch on the front. The biggest downfall to these trucks was even with the ones that had heaters in them would barely keep you from freezing your ASS off. I wish I had one now.

These things are a BLAST! Every time I thought, "this thing is never going to be able to do that", it just friggin did it. I actually prefer the deuce and half over the 5 ton. When my 1SGT retired, on his last day we hid his VW Beetle in the bed of a deuce and a half with the canvas bed roof on so he couldn't leave. haha So many memories.

I actually prefer the five ton trucks over the deuce and a halfs when it comes to reliability and longevity.There's very little that can go wrong with Mack or Cummins unless something extreme and stupid is attempted with any of them.Still,with the 22:1 compression ratio of the multi fuel engines it's incredible how easily those trucks can still crank even in negative temperatures.

The M-35 was the first model and had a gasoline engine! Two barrel I think. It even had a grease fitting on the carburetor, some kinda linkage. They also had a 20+ pound, 25 amp generator with a shoe-box sized regulator! Yep. Great trucks! 👍🇺🇸👍

​@@kentporter2991 Actually,the M34 "Eagle Beaver" was the very first prototype and it mainly used the body,frame,and chassis of the GMC M135-M211. The differences were the front end,cab,engine,and transmission. Instead of the GMC 302 the prototype used the OA-331 from Reo and Continental which later on became thee engine for the original series of the M35's. Also,they used the Spicer 3053A transmissions instead of the automatic transmissions that all of the GMC two and a half ton trucks used.The Spicer transmissions were entirely used for the complete production of deuce and a halfs until the trucks were discontinued.

The multi-fuels we're never known for horse power. The cat engines they used later in the A3 series were more powerful. Imo, the A2 series is fun to drive since it has a manual vs an automatic transmission.

That is 130 with the turbo. Naturally-aspirated versions ran 125 horsepower, and rolled coal like nobody's business. The turbo was to kill the smoke.
