We can't wait for people to get hands-on! The Dyson Airstrait™ straightener has been developed and tested for all hair types - achieving natural straight styles for Type 1-3a/b hair, and stretched blow out styles for Type 3c-4 hair. All from wet, and with no heat damage!

I have been dreaming of the day my whole life that a team of bright engineering minds would develop a styling tool for blow outs or straightening that would save your hair from heat damage! I have curly hair and have gone through multiple hair growth 'reset cycles' because of heat damaged curls caused by heating tools. Nothing, even heat protectant sprays and serums worked and I thought "Wouldn't it be cool if one day someone could figure out how to get the straight look but without the excessive heat?" This product is like a dream come true! Thank you Dysoneers!

@helene trv I disagree. There are two modes on this device: 1. Wet to dry (for straightening) 2. Dry mode (for refreshing the hair). Dry Mode will cause some heat damage. However, on the Wet to Dry Mode the company states it does not cause heat damage. Why? Dry mode has two temp settings 250 degrees and 285 degrees Fahrenheit. Alpha-keratin in hair denatures at a temperature range around 227-237 degrees Fahrenheit, which means anything above that range is susceptible to causing heat damage to the hair. The wet mode on the Dyson air straight has three settings at 175 degree, 230 degrees, and 285 degrees. So if a user of this product wants to avoid heat damage this device can achieve this goal, as long as, Wet to Dry mode is selected at time of use at 175 degrees or 230 degrees. Additionally, this product has advanced tech sensors in this Dyson air straight which monitors the temperature 30 times PER SECOND to ensure temperature control is regulated at every moment of use, which is an amazing feature not found in most heat styling tools on the market. This product has value beyond the results that is found embedded in the technology, which is why I am excited to be using and purchasing.

Throughout the development of the Dyson Airstrait™ straightener, our engineers trialled with hair types ranging from Type 1 (straight) to Type 4 (very curly/coily) hair. This helped us understand the different benefits for different hair types: natural straight styles for Type 1-3a/b hair and stretched blow out styles for Type 3c-4 hair - from wet, with no heat damage: ms.spr.ly/6051gncOf

@@dyson thank you for the quick response and the extra video. However, I wonder why more Black (3c-4) examples weren't simply included in your primary video? Why should Black women have to go the extra step? Re: the Airstrait, did @dyson decide that a product which would achieve a "straight style" for Black (3c-4) hair is too damaging or too hot for non-Black (1-3b)? Keeping in mind that those hair textures are already blow-dry straight. Again, I wish @dyson valued that Black women also want the convenience of straight styles with one product. Are you intimating that Black women have to chose between dry+straighter and dry+straight (potential heat damage)? I can get the same result, faster, blow-drying my hair and STILL need the extra step of flat ironing. This product is too expensive for that. I'm sure that @dyson could develop a product for us...if you thought it was important.

I've just seen a video review from Manes by Mell. Her coily demo wasn't with a real person but a mannequin with 1a hair that was curled. Her own hair is similar in texture to mine but my curls are smaller. Not the best demo for all textures but I appreciate what I saw. Dyson needs to start with the tightest of coils and then engineer backwards. But instead they try to figure it out after the fact. They're missing an entire market by not doing that. And we all know black women (and women of color in general) willingly invest more in beauty products. It's very disappointing. My hair would look like her (Manes by Mell) hair at the end. For the investment I need to look like I left the salon (Dominican blowout or silk press), not just a blow dry. Hopefully they take this into consideration for a future model. Maybe a curly textured version? If so, I'd sign up to try! 😊

I was initially super excited when I read about this, but now I just feel disappointed. I really wish that you all showed a diversity of hair textures in this main video. It looks like that even when the researchers were in the lab testing this device (like at 0:48- 0:52), it was on silkier-textured hair. This is 2023--this shouldn't be an issue anymore and I know that I, as a black woman, am SO tired of having this conversation with beauty/cosmetic companies. Please do better, because we deserve better. And re: the video with the model with super-textured hair. That was...an attempt, but the device clearly wasn't tested well enough on kinky-textured hair because her hair was no where near as straight as the models you all showed in this video.
@mavendnc
@mavendnc Жыл бұрын
Agree on every single point you've made. It needs to be engineered for kinky textured hair, not as an after thought. But they knew this was coming. Seems like it's not enough of an issue or a pull to do anything about it tho.
@sylrickafosterruwadi
@sylrickafosterruwadi Жыл бұрын
@@mavendnc Yes--that's exactly it, kinky textured hair was clearly an afterthought. I honestly don't understand how though...like I know that they were aware of the range of hair textures even before they made this device. I think one of the main issues is that no person with kinky hair was involved in making this thing, going off of who was actually shown in the lab. Anyways, this is all frustrating.

If you pay attention instead of trying to find flaws with no appreciation to the research and development going into these products, you would notice that they emphasize in the video the fact that there are no hot plates, only airflow. As far as I can see, ghd and Remington have not done that. Please do your research before calling something crap.
