It’ll also help my curls last longer by smoothing my cuticle more before curling. Will definitely be purchasing.

Thank u! I think a lot of people are assuming this will replace a straightener…but it doesn’t…it just combines two steps, stretching and drying…NOT straightening and drying. I have the same process to straighten my hair, i either curl with a curling iron or use the tymo straightening comb, i think this drier with those two tools will result in sleeker styling with less direct heat damage. Thank you for still giving an honest review after partnering with Dyson! I’m not very impressed with the product but I just don’t think I’m in the target market. I’m hoping they come out with something more like an airwrap for coarse/curly hair that will actually work for us!
@AutumnKiss3212 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, I think companies would make so much more money if they for once make a multi tool ( or even individual tools)specifically catering to the needs of curly/coarse hair textures because it's annoying to always have to take extra steps and figure out how to make something designed for looser textures work for mine
@gummy5862 Жыл бұрын
I mean, nothing right now can really achieve what you want besides *more* heat. A big marketing point is their minimal damage. You’re gonna have to come in with a flat iron for anything flatter and sleeker.
@AutumnKiss3212 Жыл бұрын
@gummy5862 I don't think that's true. There's definitely other things that can be done to make tools better for curly hair. For example most people with tighter curl patterns need some kind of tension from a comb or brush as they're straightening their hair to get it smooth. For me personally that's the key to getting it sleeker not more heat. If companies created flat irons with curls in mind we would see more flat irons with teeth built into them to create the tension for us and there's a ton of other changes I could think of that could be made if they wanted to cater to curly hair. Also i think at the end of the day women use hair tools because we want to enhance our looks a bit more and feel good about our hair and a lot of people turn to straightening and smoothing tools because it's the easier option to choose. However if their were tools created to enhance natural curls to look even better in a quicker time they might choose that. So for me personally when I say I'd like a tool for curly hair sleek and straight isn't necessarily the only goal.
@DinkyInky2 Жыл бұрын
They had flatirons with slightly grippy teeth in the plates in the 80s. As a curly girl with extremely porous hair, I definitely say avoid tools like them, as it tore the crap out of my hair, yet they still make them. Even the modern ones with brushy bits on the outside edges and flatiron inside tore at my hair. The only flatiron that didn't, looked like a flattened curling iron, but was absolute rubbish on wet hair. I'm trying to recover my curls after decades of straightening it by various means, and an ill-advised attempt at Curly Girl method making my hair the unhealthiest it had ever been. I falter every now and again, and repurchase a flatiron, and this tool tempts me. Ultimately, I need to know if I permanently destroyed my curls after decades of being bullied and shamed for them, so I'm trying to go a year solid without blowouts or straightening to see what curl I have left.

Interesting tool. I got excited when I saw that the air flow was directed downward. That's where companies making blow dry brushes have failed. The air just blows outward which leaves my hair frizzy instead of sleek. It's just disappointing that after all of that technology, innovation, and testing, Dyson didn't bother to create one setting that could have worked better on coily hair. Fortunately I can still get my hair as smooth as yours with my regular blow dryer and boar bristle brush.

Yeah I'm hoping the revair eventually has a little more heat or something because this dyson not giving straight and taking just as long seems not great. While my revair gets my butt length hair done in less time and I just need a few sloppy passes with a straightner if I want sleek with body
@roselynmvm Жыл бұрын
@@pikachu7572the idea of this tool is also not to damage your hair as much as using a regular straightener, which is usually 400 degrees or more. What I don’t understand is why it take them so long when they’re only doing 2-4 passes to dry each section of hair. It might be all the back and forth when switching settings, but I can see myself doing this faster unless is not really drying the hair in 2-4 passes.
@pikachu7572 Жыл бұрын
@@roselynmvm You def shouldn't be straightening at 400 degrees wtf unless it's for like a Brazilian blowout type treatment. But that's what I'm saying, the revair has been on the market for years. No heat or very little heat. Also uses no tension at all compared to this one. And if you want slightly straighter results, literally 5-6 strands very sloppily straightened with a flat iron is all I need. Also I do my entire head of very long hair in half an hour. The only reason I brought up more heat is sometimes you want more than the blow dryer look especially if you have tighter curls/kinks. I would argue this product might even be useless on kinks (not at all similar results as blow drying) but that's just from this video
@KristiWhiteaker Жыл бұрын
I have a new respect for you lovely curlies after watching your video. Your whole family (Momma, sister, and you) were blessed with lovely curly hair, why you want it straight I don't understand. However, I have straight and want curly so I guess I understand on some level. If I had to take 45 mins to an hour to straighten my hair that would never happen, bless you all! lol Great video!
@LisaGrisham5 ай бұрын
Thank you for this video. You seem like a very honest person, and reviewer. I just heard about this tool. I do not understand how I didn't hear about it before now. I bought a Dyson tool once, and returned it asap...it didn't work for me, and it was so expensive. Which if it had worked then I would have been totally cool with it. Anyway, I have very thick, coarse frizzy, wavey and curly color treated hair. I grew up in the 1960's and 70's. My hair was a nightmare! When people would say how lucky I was to have my kind of hair I wanted to say, you have no idea what your saying. All my friends had long straight smooth hair and I wanted to have their kind of hair. There were just no hair products back then that would help with my frizz at all. So my mom would braid it. That was really the only way I could wear it. I am a white girl, and I begged my mom to take me to a black hair salon. I thought if they can get their hair straight, why couldn't I. So we go to one of their salons, and the lady that owned it told me, that even though my hair looked like their's it would end up breaking off if she used a relaxer on my hair. But I wanted to try it anyway. She was absolutely right though. So, I had a very short pixie haircut. It was awful. So, decades later when keratin treatments came out, I was first in line, OMG I was on cloud 9!! Everyone kept saying your hair is beautiful.❤️ I was so happy with the results. I still get two a year now. Of course there are so many hair products available now, and that helps a lot. Now I don't hate my hair.🤗

@geekygirl01 Жыл бұрын
I’d still be tempted to use a brush/comb when using on 3bc/4abc hair because you really do need to pull each hair strand while drying to achieve straight hair. It’s not just air flow that gets hair straight but it’s traction too. The hair has got to be pulled straight before air passed it. It’s innovative for sure but maybe a slim brush type of attachment to clip onto it would be good. I think for straight haired/loose wavy girlies this will be a good product

I've got other tools that will do the same thing for 1/10 of the price. So if I have to do this then flat iron and curl it's a hard pass for me. Dyson needs to start with the tightest of coils and then engineer backwards. But instead they try to figure it out after the fact. They're missing an entire market by not doing that. And we all know black women willingly invest more in beauty products. It's very disappointing. My hair would look like her hair at the end. For $500 I need to look like I left the salon. 🙅🏽♀️

I'm the same, I never go for professional blow out because they just don't use enough heat, within an hour it's a bouffant. When I blow dry at home I make sure I use a high wattage (2000W+) blow drier, blow dry with tension, and then I don't need a flat iron. I could never use a travel hair dryer for example. I love that they actually included a curly girl im the campaign. I'm usually like well hmm does it work for me? I currently use the airwrap with the roundbrush attachement and a ghd to get a straight look. I'm the thin, damaged, bleached to death, oh my hair is curly that's why it always looks like a mess hairtype. Wished I was the use just shampoo and sleep on it to dry and get beautiful curls hairtype like my boyfriend 😢

Okay, Dyson! I see you! I'm impressed with this tool, tbh, and think it's a nice step towards providing the ability to make a variety of styles with less damage. Pretty cool! It does better than I could do with a blowout, with less effort, which is nice, but since I'd still want to go in with a straightener to finish the look off, this wouldn't make sense for me to invest in. But that makes sense - as you say, this is an investment (because... $$$!) that makes more sense for people like your mom who can achieve their end product with it as a one and done! My sister wears her hair more straight, so this might be an option she would like. My mom has straight hair, but this _might_ be something she would also use to replace her blowout routine... I loveeee your no nonsense, realistic review of this (expect nothing less from you and Amanda!), and some comparison shots you include to your typical end result for straight styling with different tools. I'm glad you did a video on this!

Hi! I am so thankful I found you!! I am in my 50’s and have curly hair like yours. Except I don’t have my hair dry cut.🤪 My question is this- should I buy the air straight and use another tool to put a curl when wanted OR is the Dyson air wrap better. I get highlights in the summer so I am trying to be heat conscious. Thank you for any help!!!

I see how this works but it doesn't give a sleek and smooth finish. When I straighten my hair i need it to be silky smooth, it I leave it how Mel's hair turned out, it would go frizzy in no time

Hi thanks for the honest review. I purchased it but was not very happy with the end result. Straightening didn’t last longer. I had to use my dafni brush every time to keep my hair straight for ever. Not happy with airstrait 😢

I was so excited to see you use this, I had very high hopes for this product. Sadly it’s a no for me! It did a great job smoothing your hair but omg having to stop to mess with the buttons every piece of hair was killing me. I feel like that would be more time consuming 😢
@checksanity Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. Personally, I typically do my hair in quarters and then smaller pieces per quarter. So for this I’d do the full quarter with one setting, then change to the next setting, and so on. Changing the settings by quarter rather than per piece. Does that make sense?
@laurac86 Жыл бұрын
@@checksanity I would definitely do it that way too!

One thing I noticed about Mell's hair in particular is that it is quite coarse and naturally dry. Not that there's anything wrong with it. Some people's textured IS harder to get straighter than others. Just because it doesn't work on her hair DOESN'T mean it's not gonna work for you.

Oh my god "Don't make me sweat out my blowout!" As the only curly in a straight haired family, I feel SEEN. lol. I don't know if my straight haired relatives feel this way about sweat messing with their final styling (I'm sure it does to some extent), but for me, if I sweat after a blow out and straighten, BAM, curly roots and frizzy straight ends lol. 1.5 hours of work, gone in an instant.

I think you need to finish your hair with a flat iron. It looks poofy, dry, and brittle. Can you do a comparison with the ghd duet style. The duet style actually has a flat iron integrated.

I was looking at my day not wanting to do a whole wash day, but needing to wash my hair. Can you do a "eh, good enough" wash day? Good for sick days and lazy days. Your method is so easy, but sometimes it's still too much. Thank you!

Looking forward to trying this when it launches in Australia. I love the straightening attachment for the airwrap and supersonic, two devices I love! The corale straightener I find meh. Hoping the AirStraight would work on my fine wavy hair without flattening it too much.

The Remington "Wet 2 Straight" is the only way I can get my curls stick straight. If you know, you know that it isn't a very gentle method. Needless to say, I am very intrigued and I may finally buy an obscenely expensive Dyson product! ❤

I wish I had looked at the price BEFORE I watched the video 😭Oh well, it's great to know that this product exists. Your results looked awesome, but that next day look? WOW. Maybe I'll save up and treat myself on my birthday in like...5 years.

Very interesting! So it wouldn't work as well, for example, if you sectioned off your hair (half up half down) and then dried everything twice on dry mode, then went back over everything on boost, them again with cool? Wondering because it would save a lot of switching between modes for each strand.

I wondered the same…. I Ordered my airstrait and will get back to ya!
@soniaalvarado5372 Жыл бұрын
I really like that it’s one tool and I wouldn’t have to use a brush and blow dryer. Unlike a professional, I’m not great at blowing my hair straight using two hands even with sectioning , serums etc.

The next time I get my hair done at the salon will be the telltale. Healthy airflow to dry then a bit of tweaking the ends vs flat iron cookin root to ends!! I can’t wait to use!!
@laurac86 Жыл бұрын
I want to order it and although I still think I’ll use my flat iron a little bit on the ends or just to really smooth it out that’s a hell of a lot better than using a blow dryer AND hair straightener!!

This was a great, honest review; however for the price of this tool I would be terribly disappointed with those results. I think Dyson, if it wants to crack the market for those of us with frizzy/coily hair really needs to go back to the drawing board...

Thanks for the detailed review! I’m curious how it works on 2B coarse low porosity hair. 2 hours of normal blow drying and my hair is still damp. It takes 24+ hours to air dry when loose, and 2 full days if it’s braided or in any kind of updo. So I gave up on blow dryers ages ago. It was never worth the time for me. Wondering if this would be any different since it seems like a more complex and miniature version of their hand dryers. 🤔 Btw, not sure if this is the same case for you or not, but I get eye twitches when I’ve got too many things going on. Even if I don’t feel stressed, well my eye twitches tell me otherwise, lol. I used to get them without fail during finals week every semester of school. So maybe you just need some time to relax and unwind?
