for anyone who wants a formal definition of sq law device A square law device produces an output voltage or current that is proportional to the square of its input voltage or current. Square law devices are mainly used in modulators and detectors. source -- topper learning.

Signal which are useful depends on BPF. Here BPF allows only omega frequencies signal to pass. (A bandpass filter allows signals within a selected range of frequencies to be passed , while preventing signals at unwanted frequencies from getting through.)

See if you have band pass filter of cut off frequencies 20khz and 30khz, then after passing signal through this BPF, it will eliminate all components other than 20khz to 30khz.

Assume wc is very large in compare to wm so that circuit tunned to wc not wm . And respond only to the terms of frequency wc,,, wc+wm and wc-wm. Rest term of output wave equation do not produce appreciable voltage across the tuned circuit.

It depends on what you need to end up with. This modulator is used for double sideband with full carrier modulation so those are the terms required.

Haarika shreya : non linear device will generate it . So by BPF we only take useful components

Sayan Nag we need some mechanism to multiple the Ac with m(t) . So we use a non linear device which is cheap but we get some extra useless signal which again is removed via a bpf. So it's economical to fo this way

If you pass signal from BPF then other terms will get cancelled which are useless, i mean unwanted.

I stongly understand your video. My doubt is when we are going to design a bpf, we need to assign which components has to pass, and which components has to reject.. inorder to do this,we should know,which component is usefless and which one useful before passing through bpf.if we know useless and useful components,then we can design bpf accordingly..so my question is how to know useful and useless component from the output of non linear device mathematical equation.

Hello Suresh I completely understand your question. The reason that certain terms are useless is because, our main motto here is to transmit our message signal in terms of the amplitude of the carrier signal. If you look the equation carefully there are terms independent of information terms i.e message signal. And last two terms have message signal embedded in the amplitude of the sinusoid signal, this is what we need. So by passing through BPF we are eliminating non-information signal(unwanted signal). And if you ask why use square device if it generates unwanted terms. And the answer depends on the requirement. we can opt another method of performing AM but it involves additional circuitary, which increases cost. So square law modulator is used to suit one's requirement.

There is nothing to do with sine or cosine. Sine = cosine + 90degree . So device does not effected by this.

No identity used. He just distributed the square. It's to say: (a+b)² = a² + b² + 2ab. He should have used the sin²(x) = (1-cos(2x))/2 to justify why he can get only AM signal after the Band Pass Filter, but he omitted it.

He is doing a great job providing the lectures for free to everyone. Understanding engineering course is not a simple thing. There is a lot of effort involved in mastering the subject and explaining to others. For his effort he deserves some returns. It is not mandatory to show respect to him. It's personal choice. You can compare with a general wave Single tone or Multi-tone AM signal. then you can get the Modulated part only useful.

In AM, we have Wc, Wc - Wm and Wc + Wm are useful. In DSBSC, we have Wc - Wm and Wc + Wm are useful. In SSBSC, we have Wc - Wm or Wc + Wm is useful.
