Rock solid advice, as usual! As a hiring manager at a large tech company, I really want to stress that if you just list your job responsibilities on your resume you're not going to get any traction. Impact is everything!

Your first resume puts my very first resume through embarrassment. For some odd reason I don't know, I decided to use Smiley emojis as bullet items, and created coloured cards for each section. And it is three pages long, because I copied the abstract of each of my projects I submitted to college. I still wonder how I got two offers with that, maybe I'm lucky or my colour choice somehow made the reviewer think "This guy might've accidentally applied for a software firm thinking about some comedy show. Let's call him anyways to have some fun in our stressed lives too."

I remember my first resumes, it was like 3 pages full of crap haha. good times. nowadays, I just put something in one page and that's it. don't even bother with resumes that much nowadays because the real test is interview and slkill tests.

Funny enough, in India there are quite a few recruiters who would raise eyebrows if you have a very clean resume and expect loaded with words and multiple pages .

IMO, If you're applying to those types of companies then you're kinda asking for it.

Hi Utsav, How should one create a resume if they have been on bench (not actively working on organisational projects) but has been learning different things and creating small POCs and side projects while in their time-off. How can we show case that in our resume? Is it required to show it off in our resume? What if someone wants to switch jobs while on bench. What would your viewpoints be. Thanks in Advance 🙂

hey, just wanted to ask whats the reason behind blurring/blackening details? i was just curious. is it some sort of nda(or something similar) employees have with companies they worked for or just something ethical and one shd be doing? thanks.
@ashk9112 жыл бұрын
Those are project names/internal details that are probably under an NDA and that's why the censor.
@EngineeringwithUtsav2 жыл бұрын
They aren’t specifically under NDA but there is no point on disclosing project names and tying them to implementation details on the public internet. It’s out of respect to my team and company. If you noticed, I also redacted all the company names, because it takes away from what I’m trying to convey or teach. People will see some big names in there and that’s what the conversation turns into. I wanted it focused just on the content of the resume. :) Hope it makes sense.

What about books that you have read? if you have read 50+ book I imagine that you put authors maybe? and what is your opinion on website with your resume?
@thusithadananjaya96102 жыл бұрын
As always, amazing content. BTW, do you think should we add academic projects to our next CV, if we are doing a postgraduate program while full-time working? Let's assume we are studying totally different technologies compared to the full-time job.
@sharaths22942 жыл бұрын
Sir , you have listed few books for software engineer in the description , are they enough to have solid foundation as CS degree. I don't have a engineering background so that's why. What about math that deals with problem solving, do you have recommendation for that also?. Thanks.
