I had the same problem with a bran new looking Holley 2925. Luckily I have a Bridgeport and it needed to be milled anyway because my heads have been milled so many times. It must of been a blem from day one because I also had to add weld on one side on the bottom of the ports because it did not cover the ports with a 1206. So I welded it up and already had a fixture I made a couple years ago for my strip dominator. It’s on and running great after some port matching. It’s ready to bolt on my F1R Procharger!

@9:47 since you have that pro German fingering technique and all, who better to ask! I acquired an 06 A4 2.0T that the timing belt did timing belt things.... Ya know, snapped! What's your years of German vehicle advice? Lap some valves, replace engine or replace head? (Really don't want to buy a Chinese casting and really don't want to spend stupid money that they want for an engine...... The cam is fine, there was zero issues prior to the belt going. Bet this will be no surprise to you.... I was going to do the belt, wp and thermostat housing but when I went to start on it, found the dumb coolant flange leaking. Not wanting to dump the coolant twice I decided to order the aluminum replacement flange that only takes 3 days......... 2 days later........ Wouldn't you know it...... Yuuuuupppppp...... The belt didn't even look worn, I was just doing it since I was going to be in there.... German things 😂 Oh and sarcasm, satire and hyperboles help us keep our sanity with having to deal with all the smrt folk out here!
@EngineRehab9 ай бұрын
Those 2.0’s weren’t terrible engines, you really need to be sure the cams aren’t damaged as well as the rollers. I think those have pressed on cam lobes too, you need to make sure they didn’t spin. Other than that, parts are easy to get and not terribly expensive. Be sure to do the water pump/thermostat and replace the pcv stuff in the valve cover. Volkswagen is pretty known for these in particular being trash. You should take the head to a trusted machine shop as long as you feel the car is worth the effort! It is almost 20 years old at this point and not worth much.
@commonsenseisdeadin20249 ай бұрын
@@EngineRehab it's still pretty clean and nice, Audi AWD in Minnesota is amazing (and fun with the 70/30 rear wheel bias 😈) Good to know about the cam lobes. Like I said, the belt wasn't the issue (well I mean obviously it was 😂) I was addressing, I had a stuck open thermostat and winter don't mix! Since the thermostat is so lovely and convenient to change, I bought a gates belt and metal impeller water pump since I was in there 😂 I already yeeted the PCV and put in a catch can. What is the price for you to go through it (for a general idea) I have no problem lapping some new valves in myself, I am sure it's not ideal but if these are notorious for damaged seats (potentially cam lobes 😂) or popping a hole through the piston (I haven't looked inside yet, too busy at the moment, currently no room in the shop and it's cold out so I'm "taking my time" 🤣) I have the tools and more than capable of doing the work (I am a fleet mechanic but have a 40x80 shop at home) the car isn't worth 💩 not running but prices for a used engine is ridiculous so it's either I do the valves myself or a machine shop, otherwise I'll put it in the field and keep an eye out for someone parting a crashed one with a cheap motor.... Or the rodents destroy it then I junk it 😂 it owes me nothing.

Carb flange is supposed to be tilted as the engine doesn't sit level in the car. If you take too much off the intake faces, the valley will have to be cut too, port matching will have to be done and the bolt holes will need work to line up, but since someone drilled those out, they are probably good enough. Same thing happens when a head or deck surface needs to be cut a lot>>intake manifold needs to be cut to match up.
@EngineRehab9 ай бұрын
Oh no, so I shouldn’t have cut it flat?

Why make it straight if the degrees over the distance doesn't matter? Also with the intake sitting deeper in the heads do you have to shim the distributor and I'm writing this maybe a bit earlier than I should be. What about the lifter galley mating surfaces? If you took .030 off intake flanges shouldn't you have a formula for those services? Also how are the intake runners of the head going to meet up with the new plain of the intake? I get what you're trying to to do but it seems to me there should be a lot more explaining of depths after machining.. 030 is a bunch at 90° is it the same if you take .030 off 2 45° ? Seems like you need to really explain everything not just 2 angles because there is a bunch more you could have explained. My opinion.

the sarcasm is what got me subbed. that and the in law stories. hoping i don't hear more of those, but i'll still listen. Edit: Are you supposed to slightly tram the milling head so only the front of the fly cutter cuts? Or is that an outdated method and the milling head is supposed to be perfectly perpendicular when milling? I know tramming can leave a slightly cupped cut, but I'm wondering if that's a bad thing on today's vehicles. Mainly talking head and block sealing surfaces.
