Maintenence is key to any engines longevity, I don't care what the owners manual says or what the dealership says, they're just scam artists basically telling you to ruin your vehicle for them so they can charge you out the ass for repairs, don't go against your basic automotive instincts, I don't even use 0w20 oils ever, at least 5w or 10w depending on how much duty the vehicle will be put through, the 0w oils are also a scam and they only exists for emissions bullshit, they are actually worse on your engine unless you live in antartica where it's so damn cold you need a super thin oil to keep engine lubricated properly on startups...It's all a damn scam and con anymore, and nobody should be falling for any of it, in fact the crap these auto manufacturers make now should he illegal by lemon laws...

I’ve owned an Audi RS7 and VW Tiguan and both had zero issues. The key is to follow common sense upkeep and take care of your vehicles. A 10k mile oil change is just ridiculous

Sure. One - ten - 200 overheated engines in the workshop. Proves it beyond all reasonable doubt. All VW & Audi owners destroy their vehicles. One hundred per cent.

So you're putting a stronger set of springs and making the supporting structure thinner so you can rev it even higher and increase the dynamic loads even more. I hope you're at least honest enough to post video of the cracked spring pockets.

lol at all the “WELL AXSHULLY I have an Audi/VW and mine isn’t like that, wow so amazing what basic maintenance does! hurrdurr” The issue just going right over their heads to play the “my anecdotal evidence outweighs commonly known issues” game … which doesn’t matter with basic upkeep because the issues remain in comparison to others by large. It’s like people get really defensive when the make of their vehicle is mentioned in these types of videos and need to try really hard to convince themselves that it’s _totally_ not true lol.

Fantastic engines with very limited room for fuckery such as neglect on maintenance. Many times these get headgaskets but have internal head cracks. Very common and can result in compression and coolant mixing.

General maintenance on a German car IN THE USA is expensive because the engineers, fearing their own obsolescence, like to rearrange the entire engine compartment, and they don’t hesitate to require body panel removal for “normal maintenance” like replacing starters and other dumb shit

Very nice work. That fly cut surface finish is gorgeous. I am curious as to the DOC you take on jobs like these? I always figured the clearances were pretty dang tight and wouldn't be enough material to stay in tolerance with a fly cutter on a mill as opposed to a surface grinder. Or is milling actually preferred here for having chips instead of fine particles that can get down inside and cause damage internally?

Notice this engine's design. The cylinders are siamesed together. There's no space between them. Coolant can't get between the cylinders. Okay for normal use, but not for sustained high speed driving.

Volkswagen and Audis are pretty reliable. But 80% of owners are morons. Its not a 1996 corolla. You actually have to maintain it. But that 80% treats their VW product like its a corolla.

I remember doing research on this at one point but if i remember correctly the glock slides gen 1 - 3 are actually 4140CRV and the barrels are 4150. IIRC. That said you and Tony did a very good job with this video, thank you Ray. Very informative, educational, and entertaining.

My VW Jetta has been going for 18 years and I still have not had a single problem with the engine in all of the 419,000 k's I've done with it. Worst thing that happened was the rubber lining on the flywheel of the DSG wearing down so they it clunked and clattered in neutral or sometimes when I shifted.

Just force ghem to do a software update that limit the engine performances so it doesnt overheat, not like a gzneral nerf but just something that will not be as powerful when irs close to overheat so it doesnt, just like how processors throttle down when too hot to not burst into flames

@TheMet4lGodКүн бұрын
I don't know. Car owners in general don't take very good care of their vehicles. Owner manuals are vague. They also don't tell you how to properly take care of turbochargers.
@lylemcdermott2566Күн бұрын
They tell you the minimum, not every mofo on this planet can get the engine out and completely disassemble the whole thing and use precision machinery to do that. You have to be or know a good mechanic if you want to extend your engine life expectancy. Forget it if you push it to the limits thinking that with all your mods and reprogramming it won't F your St up. People are being delusional.
@TheMet4lGodКүн бұрын
@lylemcdermott2566 what kills me though is that the information is internal. I found a document online from Audi for the service people that if the car is operated under extreme/harsh conditions as outlined in the owners manual that the maintenance intervals are cut in half. So an oil change every 6 months/5k miles instead of 1 yr/10k miles.
@lylemcdermott2566Күн бұрын
@TheMet4lGod yeah, that's where you have to know a mechanic that works on those engines and know every detail about them. Well the way things are going in the close future, all cars will have crap engines so there won't be anymore of these discussions. Everything breaks within 2 years of use, like the bmw parts they purposely put in there.
@TheMet4lGodКүн бұрын
@lylemcdermott2566 I will say, though, that my 2014 GLI has had no issues in the 8 years I have owned it. The only issues I have had was due to me hitting a raccoon in May that totaled it, but it still drives well after fixing it.

Have had 2 20v’s in my life and they both were great motors when tuned but yep. Both overheated and both had thermostat issues. Then had a mk6 gti that got tuned at ECS Tuning and they had to open up the ecu but neglected to re silicone it which is idiotic considering it sits under the cowl panel.. took to my nearest VW dealer that was APR certified (the type of tune on the car) had ECS replace my ecu and then the dealer install. They tried to cheap out sending a used one which have immobilizers. So had them send a second one. Which ended up being for a GLI not a GTI. So after sending them the exact part number needed as requested by the dealer. They sent a third and final one. Checked the part number myself and knew it was brand new and the right one. Few days go by, the dealer calls me and says hey they sent another GLI ECU and it got installed which did serious damage to the bcm, harness, and a few other things and said I need to have the car rewired now. New ignition switch. New keys. New instrument cluster for some reason and nothing made sense. If it was for a GLI why install it. Then found out from a Vw tech who was a friend of mine from another dealer. That when you go to flash an ecu to a car in vagcom the software the use at the dealer. There is a drop down menu for the type of car. And GTI is right above GLI and once one is selected you cannot stop the process. So the dealer fucked up. Then proceeded to tell me I needed even more work done because of THEIR mistake but yet it was my fault for giving the wrong ecu. I hired a lawyer who wanted to have them take US to court, said it was an open and shut case. Day of the hearing. Attorney doesn’t show. Judge won’t allow a continuation due to lack of representation. But since we pressed them to take us to court they wouldn’t allow that. So I got boned and had to pay over 2k in labor plus “storage fees” because it had been there a few months bricked. Because of them. When I was able to drive it in but couldnt drive it out and somehow that was my fault. So had to pay an additional 1700$ and have the car towed within the week. Needless to say that was my last VW I’ll EVER own. Horrible customer service and experience. Bought the car brand new at 22 years old in 2012 and before I even had 20k on the car it was bricked. OH and the dealer parked it in the corner up against a bunch of brush and woods behind it and the day I got it back and looked at everything myself (first time in months) mice had gotten into the engine bay. Chewed up my harness under the fuse box. Cheeed a hole through my firewall and into my glove box. So my guess is the “harness that needed replacing because the car thinks it’s a GLI now” was to cover for the neglect of how they stored it. And is verbatim what they said to me. That my gti thought it was a GLI. So it needed all new wiring. So yes. A decade later in still upset about all that and every time I see a vw with issues I just get reminded of that and I wonder why people still purchase these cars.
