Wasn’t that statistic extraordinary about no turnovers till the 49th minute? I almost spit my coffee out 🤣 Tellingly England got a roll on when they started hitting the breakdown harder in the second half and gaining some ascendancy there. For now, focus on balance 3 games. Gonna be huge.
@JulianShawofficial2 ай бұрын
Loving this comment! I think you’re so right about the replacements. That really was how the ABs won this game. I had predicted England would get the W and part of my thinking was that a 4th quarter fade would kill us. Well, I’m the first to admit I got that wrong and the ABs really lifted a gear in the home stretch, bucking the trend we’ve seen in 2024. Being wrong has never felt so right 😂 I was screaming at the TV when Telea scored and D Mac iced the sideline conversion 😮💨
@fidget20202 ай бұрын
Very tough watch for AB fans. We were poor, no two ways about it. Set piece was a shambles. Aumua had a shocker, but who was calling the lineout? Over the back wasn’t working, but they kept trying it. B Barret made a number of mistakes and does not look like our 10 going forward. DMac has a far better pass and heads up play. What is Razors game plan? Total unstructured rugby? That’s what it looks like. We STILL can’t handle the rush D! The only bright spot was Sititi the rookie, who kept us in the match and had a huge hand in the W.
@JulianShawofficial2 ай бұрын
Yes, the game was close to disaster and while I am stoked we got home I won’t forget a missed kick was the ultimate difference. I admit I was wrong in my prediction, but to be honest the game played out almost exactly as I prophesied. ABs had the better attack but the lineout wobbled against Itoje and co again. We would have scored more points if the rush D hadn’t made our lives hell at times. Where England faltered was not imposing more territory. The line out particularly stalled when Tupou Vaai left the field. Aumua looked a bit lost and I tend to agree that the ‘over the back’ throw is a high risk one. It seemed to be their work around for not having total clarity on the calls.
@JulianShawofficial2 ай бұрын
Also, re the BB VS D Mac debate, while Barrett might have the edge in game management due to superior experience the last couple of starts for him have illustrated he isn’t the panacea some claim. In fact it underlined a lot of D Mac’s best qualities.

@rory75902 ай бұрын
Well, if the Hooker’s core function is to go off injured in the first five minutes, then I think Codie Taylor nailed it! Seriously though, NZ hasn’t beaten England by more than a handful of points for the last decade so you need to set more realistic expectations. The team is getting better but, like life, unexpected events - like injuries to experienced and key players - tend to make things less than smooth running. You also have to respect the opposition - England may not be winning every match but they are a team that beat Ireland this last year and ran both France and South Africa close also. They are a solid outfit. New Zealand have three more tough matches ahead and they will need to improve but don’t disparage a win when it happens and hold your nerve. A win next week against Ireland will really get world rugby tongues wagging and it could happen!

@rory75902 ай бұрын
The Marcus Smith intercept/Feyi-Waboso try was an outlier in this game to an extent but to answer your point, a 3-1 try ratio is the main reason why England didn’t win this match. They kept ticking over the scoreline with penalties while their defensive line was in the ascendency as with other matches (like against the Springboks in the semi last year) but they don’t really have the ability to stretch the scoreline out of reach. This gives teams like the All Blacks their chances to win because they continually seek to construct tries in attack rather than just win through defense. Also, in this match, the All Blacks bench was basically better than the England team’s. It was pleasing to see the All Blacks win the game in the last quarter and Patrick Tuipolutu’s influence is the key to that. However, I also though the BB starting-switching to DMac combo at First Five simply works better for the team at the moment. Both players had influential moments and kicked well at critical times. Ireland will be a step up insofar that they are Internationally ranked higher than England and have a winning mentality which will be hard to break down. They also have baggage from the WC but I wouldn’t get too wound up about that. The thing to look out for is how they choose to make up their pack - they played Tadhg Beirne at Blindside vs the Boks earlier this year and it worked well for them. The All Blacks will definitely need to improve in the lineout and may need to strategically consider the team line-up to counter this.
