England played 7 games at the Euro's and pretty much looked like shite the entire tournament. They had the easiest path to a finals in euro history and lost to a much better team in Spain. The 2-1 score line made it look a lot closer than the game really was and felt. England is not a threat at all to win the World Cup in 2026 and will slide back down to eearly exits at major tournaments where they rightfully belong.

Let's not get it twisted, England did not "come up short" England were very lucky that game didn't finish 5-1. They were extremely lucky to even be in the final. They were not the second best team in the tournament. The run of fixtures they had was so favourable to them and they were second best in every one of them except the Dutch game (maybe). Across the whole tournament they created less xG than Croatia who went out in the group stage. They got lucky with opposition mistakes, just moments from players, referee decisions and generous amounts of injury time to salvage the game. So England did get close, but that is their miracle.
@Chloeprettyoccasionally4 ай бұрын
We did well to get to the final (which was more skill than luck), but in the final itself Spain had very few chances and we would have equalised without Olmo, who should have been sent off in the first half. So really we were unlucky not to win, and refereeing went against us all tournament.
@IamTiernO4 ай бұрын
@@Chloeprettyoccasionally That's just wrong and delusional. You had a good 13 min spell vs Serbia and stopped playing. Serbia were better after that and deserved at least a point. Denmark were better and your goal was quite lucky as a deflection fell to Kane. Slovenia were the better side in that 0-0 and on paper they are way inferior. Should never have been 0-0. Switzerland were better and you just scraped through on pens. Again, should be beating Switzerland in 90 mins. You did as good against them as Scotland did in 90 mins. Slovakia should have been 3-0 up at half time, the referee gave you a generous amount on injury time for which you got the equalizer from. Netherlands were pretty much robbed conceding a penalty which was actually a foul BY Kane and Saka handballed it. That gave you a phase of momentum in the first half. Afterwards, Netherlands were the better team. In the final Pickford was your man of the match. It should have been 5-1 by the time the winner was scored.

Southgate is not a good manager. He's not had a good strategy whatsoever, whatever Tom says. They've had luck with the draw and special singular moments. He'a not implemented anything to increase the value of the squad, rather the opposite - played scared, diminished his players' abilities and reacted, not once proacted. England went in as favourites and were consistently disappointing barely scraping through mediocre opposition whilst a pound-for-pound lesser team beat out far better opposition, predominantly due to their coach's tactics.

Tournament was summed up for me a couple minutes after Palmer's goal. The ball went out for a throw on the far side, level with the edge of their penalty box. England crowd were loud and up for it, we had the momentum behind us. At that time I was definitely thinking 'we're going to win this.' Walker looked for a throw, couldn't find one, looked again, couldn't find one, looked again.... then threw it backwards to a defender. Who then passed it to Pickford. We lost it to Spain soon after, who then promptly held posession for 10 minutes and killed us off. Was just sitting there and thinking 'you've got the momentum, they're rattled, just get a ball in the damn box. Yeah, it will probably be defended and headed away, but now's the time to go for it.' It just seemed though that Southgate has drilled into them to never take any sort of risk. Better to keep the ball and do nothing with it, then go for a risky pass.

The reason England get to finals and semi finals recently is not because of Southgate, it's because for the last 3 tournaments England have had easy routes. It nearly sounds made up but all you have to do is look at the. If England had Spains route they would have been out long before the final. Needed a wonder goal in the last seconds to stay in the competition again Slovakia in the round of 16. England play a team of a similar calibre and they get beat every time. Look at the Nation's League. England were in a group with Italy (who they got beat by in the last Euros but haven't qualified for the last 2 World Cups), one of the worst German sides in recent memory who didn't get out of the group stages of the 2022 WC and Hungary. England finished bottom with 3 points in 6 games. 4 points behind Germany who finished 3rd. I have genuinely never seen a person, never mind a manager, who is luckier than Southgate. One of the highest paid International team managers and he is terrible any time there is a half decent team in front of him.

Second goal was a tired side stretched trying to press. I also dont see how everyone was saying Cucurella was their weakness, bloke has been one of the best performers this tournament and i believe its club performance bias (even though he was chelseas best player in the last 5-10 games). Englands biggest problem was having 2 number 10s and no leftsided winger capable of stretching them on that side, which mean they could neuter Saka with an extra player by defending more heavily on the right side. If there is a change of management they will need to choose 1 of either Bellingham or Foden, not both, having both skews balance in the side. Gordon needs to play along with Watkins to stretch the opposition defences. Time for Kane to hang up the International boots, slow ponderous and no threat going forwards this tournament.

he was bringing on gallagher and trippier he 100% was trying to play for extra time rather than go for it, which we played better when we actually had a go

Graham potter is 100x better than Southgate what am I hearing?? I agree potter isn’t the most exciting manager but he’d do better than Southgate tactically without a doubt. Also getting to 2 finals means nothing if you don’t win it. Southgate can’t get the best out of these players and they struggle playing his style of football.

I don't know why Potter turned into a meme all of a sudden because he didn't succeed in one of the worst run clubs in England. Did well in Sweden and at Brighton, and played good football doing so. Southgate doesn't lace his boots.

if jack clarke from sunderland can get a decent summer/ winter transfer & carries on improving the way he is. he could defiantly push for contention on the left hand side for england world cup squad.

Clarke is quality but we've got Gordon who has been quality for Newcastle the last couple years. Rashford and Grealish might get back in the mix, Sterling might get back in the team.

@@safcjoe7062 sterling an grealish will be both be in their 30’s.. rashford and Gordon are a obvious but I have full faith Clarke can and will go and be a top LW in prem giving him every chance

People say Kane was stinky. It was because Southgate wanted to play to fodens strengths where he has no good tournaments for England rather than Englands all time top goalscorer.

Would love to debate you all on this. Southgate is useless and holding them back. It's not just the players available to him but look at opposition and fixtures.

It is very hard to get to a final, they should make another one but realistically Spain, France, Germany, Argentina could keep them away from it if they don't tactically improve.

What this game made me realise weirdly, is we really missed out on the World cup. Best football we played in Southgate era and we on paper did worse than every other tournament. If that Kane pen doesn’t get sent to nasa , I genuinely think we win the World Cup. But if buts and maybes

Tom saying it was silly of Reev to pick Mamardashvili for the TOTT because Georgia only made it to the RO16 and then IMMEDIATELY after picking Embolo in his is hilariously ironic. Sure Switzerland made it 1 round further but they've got a far, far, far better team than Georgia have. Mamardashvili genuinely single handedly kept them in this tournament.

Toms been saying this whole tourney, thats we should cut southgate some slack because “it works”. Lewis has been saying it’s unsustainable. Somehow lewis was more in the right. “It works” only lasts as a shield to criticism until it stops working. Ignoring all the problems of the team and the manager because of
