Fair point. Personally I just didn't understand what GS was doing. But now I see it. I don't necessarily agree with it but he's the manager. The plan is so simple. Also, the criticism of Southgate is valid. It is still unclear what Southgate is doing. The reason England is in a final is because they haven't played France, Portugal or Germany in this tournament. The reason we LOST the final against Italy was that Southgate was NOT reactive with subs, and so Mancini checkmated him with a flexible two-position two-system-changing substitution. When Southgate is proactive, he gets found out. The only issue, which it would be great if you could discuss next time, is how fast Southgate needs to be when he is reacting. Currently, he is too slow for me. I put that down to tactical ability, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Pen was given and would always be given as he went for the block with studs up and made contact. studs up challenge is always given as a dangerous challenge and foul. it being after the shot or if kane ran into it has no bearing on the decision. seen many fouls give for studs up challenges regardless how much contact is in it. if you cant reach the block and result to studs up that's your fault for not being close enough to get a block with your body. the argument how do you block studs down while that high is ridiculous , that's like defending a bad slide tackle by saying how else was he meant to get the ball from that distance.

He doesn't have to straighten his leg at kane to block the shot. If he goes horizontally to the goal then he would be blocking more of the goal and his studs wouldn't be raised. That's 100% a foul and penalty. It late, the raised studs make it dangerous and there is clear contract. How can people not think that's a penalty. The talent in this England squad is so good that it’s almost impossible to screw up. Southgate has been bailed out multiple times by individual brilliance. He’s not the worst manager ever like some people used to call him but saying he’s a genius now would be crazy considering most players on England’s bench would start for 90% of teams in the world. This is becoming overstated but this tournament and the copa has suffered from player burnout. Bellingham has looked mentally drained throughout. As a scot Andy Robertson looked like he was about to keel over for us as did several more of our players who play packed schedules. Bielsa touched on this also, something needs to be done about it as the quality of the game has declined and footballs popularity will decline eventually also as a result. The difference watching these players play for their clubs and country is night and day. It's getting embarrassing.

I think pretty much everyone outside England thinks this could be over at Half time. On form Spain should not just beat England but absolutely spank them on Sunday. The Gulf in performance is cavernous. But, while great and exciting teams tend to win the World Cup, by contrast, the Euros often goes to dull, dour teams who have the rest of Europe scratching their heads at how such a bad team could possibly win. England winning would fit that profile. I actually think England getting to the final suits Spain better than the Netherlands. Reminds me of how Portugal won the finals, an easy path done with a lot of luck and a place in a final, where anything can happen, it's a final. Spain should win, but so should have France won Portugal back when. The only diference is England really does have an amazing squad, while Portugal back in 2016 was more mediocre than this years squad, which makes the lackluster football of England even harder to understand. Not really, it's defensive football, Southgate is like Santos was back for Portugal, a meek coach for a brave team. As someone who understand football i have to say that Spain is favorite. Sauthgate is cultural guy As a coach, the luckiest man in history. His game is non-existent, positional and defensive. It has the advantage that the competition in Europe and the world is never worse, there are no dominant teams like there used to be, for example Brazil or Spain. His team and the players he has at his disposal are quite good and of high quality. With these players I would have better results, I would certainly win something. What is not at all clear to me is why he doesn't call Tomori to the national team to play defense for him, that's where he is thin. Are they in a fight?
