@@coryevans6093 the agendas thing is certainly true, everyone has one though to be fair. I do think they know what they are talking about in the main but they do get blinded by the agendas. Like foden for example, I love him but have we not learned from the golden generation debate?! They’ve even talked about it in the podcast, sometimes there isn’t space for a player, unless you set the system up for it and I don’t think Southgate is capable of that in all honesty, again, as much as I think he’s a nice bloke.

It’s not all about one player. We need proper width on the left, playing Foden central and Bellingham deeper is one obvious way to do that. Bellingham has played there his whole career other than this season.
@sihi56345 ай бұрын
@@ConorF727 I’m saying that’s a bad idea, we lose his goal threat, foden was also terrible even when he got the ball. Foden plays incredibly in a very structured city team, playing for England isn’t the same thing, I’m not sure he can ever hit the city heights for England whereas Bellingham can do it in any team, he needs to be close to goal, especially with Kane looking off it/injured, we have no other goal threat in the team.
@ConorF7275 ай бұрын
@@sihi5634 I think it’s unfair to say Bellingham can do it in any team and Foden can’t, the team has been set up for Bellingham to shine whereas that can’t be said for Foden. I don’t agree about him being the only goal threat, don’t write off Kane after one bad game. And also, dropping Bellingham deeper would give the team more balance with someone other than Trippier providing the attacking threat on the left, which in theory should give us more chance of scoring more goals.

The ceding of control is an issue. Especially if it’s by choice. That means it’s a personality thing and winners don’t deliberately cede control unless they are tricking their opponent. @@monkey39128agree about the wild reactions; England always generate drama, but there are some worrying bad habits creeping back in the way England are playing right now: the static tempo; defending too deep; the lack of game intelligence, particularly from Trent and Foden who everyone has been berating Southgate to cram into the system and from Pickford persisting with hitting long balls to Kane who never wins them, Southgate’s usual inertia, etc.. The team doesn’t look as prepared as before.

Before the game, everyone had questions about defense. Gareth would have shared that concern. So what do you think they have spent most of their energies on in camp so far? Trent didn’t loose the ball 11 times? He lost the ball 4 times and one time he recovered it himself. It was foden that lost the ball 11 times. No outlet on the left. Foden and Bellingham in each others way.
The game really highlighted Southgate's lack of ability to utilize the strength of the young talent England has. There's also a need to have an out right seasoned winger instead of pushing Foden out wide. Grealish and Rashford being left out of the squad is definitely a mistake by Southgate for now.

Foden needs to be benched. He's been given opportunities on the right, in the 10 and as an 8 and has consistently stunk up the place. At a certain point we can't keep making excuses and the onus is on him to demand his place through performances. I'd understand the constant push to accommodate him if we were like Wales and he was our one Bale superstar - but we're stacked in forward positions and unfortunately that means some top players are gonna miss out.

The manager needs to embrace the squad and the 5 subs. England were decent at the world cup and apart from the use of subs against France I thought Southgate did well. The better performances were a consequence of making early varied subs. Palmer Eze Wakins Worton/Manioo should all get 20 mins plus no matter the score on Thursday.

Do you chaps think Foden is a good player? I really worry this tournament will not help him if he has to be understudy to Bellingham even though he’s so much better than him he shouldn’t start and Phil might be the reason why Southgate is sacked
@edenholt43945 ай бұрын
I don’t see the experiment of playing our left back (Trippier) as a left winger in possession as really a sustainable fix to the ‘Foden problem’. All you’re doing is playing more players in uncomfortable positions, hence why all our attacks in the first half ended up going through the right hand side. Either, Southgate has to do the unthinkable and actually drop Bellingham into a deeper position and play Foden as the 10 (I believe this is our best option). Or the second best option would be to bench Foden and play Gordon left wing. I think Southgate will most likely do neither and decide to keep playing Foden as a left wing simply as a way to get him on the pitch and it won’t work, as much as I wish it would.
@NedTesco4 ай бұрын
Bench Foden for Gordon or Eze. At a certain point we can't just keep trying to accommodate a player who consistently stinks up the place (including when he's been given chances as a 10 or on the right). Being so stacked in attacking positions means certain big names are gonna have to miss out.

Foden should have been replaced with Gordon at half time imo, as he was largely ineffectual. It seems silly to me to try and revolve the team around Foden. At least the defence was OK against Serbia, but how is it possible that we should have to rely on the defence against a mediocre team.?
