@@robertmason6366Me too. Graham Thorpe was THE most reliable batsman for England through the shambolic 90s. Having such an outstanding career, then to see him end it this way is sad and unbelievable.

As a 90s Eng fan, Thorpey for me was the saviour, shining beacon in world of pain 😂 RIP and thank you for the memories dear Sir 🙏🏼
@ryanwebb5082Ай бұрын
I read Marcus Tres autobio and one of the themes in it was mental health and the reason he retired early. He states that one of the reasons he carried on for longer was how Thorpe - who had his own demons in the 90s - came back and the pair starred together in the test against S.A. Thorpe got better in the 2000s, and he averaged over 55 in test cricket for 30 odd tests. That's how good he really was. I've looked up to many heroes in my life, and Thorpe was one of them. I was angry in 2005 when they dropped him in the Ashes, and Thrope's reaction was telling - he retired. He deserved better, he was easily England's best player in the 90s, and I make a case that when he was in the right frame of mind, he was England's most complete batsman in the last 40 years. RIP

Mate i remember the pain. It was like being a supporter of Accrington, Stanley (exactly 😆) BUT when we won, it was a shock and worth the wait. Darren Gough was my other hero of that time, still is a legend! His next ball was nearly always how I would have bowled, plus how I thought i could bowl as a young man 🤦 haha! Totally shocked about Thorpe, the little genius he was and was known as. Hope you’re at peace now 🫡

And probably the man I respected the most in the England Team Alec Stewart! What a boss of a human being he is! Conducted himself with class in victory and defeat. I remember a really painful loss to Australia after an innings from Steve Waugh. You could hear Alec say over the sump mic “Well played Stephen” while taking his globe off and shaking his hand. If he didn’t have to captain, keep and open, he’d have definitely had higher stats but this shows stats are for prats, his value as a player to English cricket can’t be measured in stats, won’t do him justice 💯👍🏻

I remember listening to this on the radio. The Pakistan team behaved atrociously. Their bowling rate dropped to about 9 overs per hour, every dirty trick to run the clock down and then go off for bad light. The umpires decided to stay on in the near dark 🤣

The rules at the time where that the batting team are offered the light and if they refuse the allotted overs are bowled. The rules have changed since. England were brave enough to stay on the pitch and got their just reward. However, this does beg the question while teams are aloud to go off when the light is far better than on that occasion. If batsman can still bat in such bad light why do they go off during any time of the day just because of cloud cover? Time should be set 15 mins before sunset and left just there. If a batsman refuses to bat he can retire and let someone else be a man. Heavy cloud cover should just be regarded as bad or good luck. We already have rules regarding short pitch bowling, helmets and various items of body armor so stay out there and perform before your high paying customers.

Condolence from Pakistan Rip Thorpe. After Aussie cricketer Shane Warne,s sudden demise. This is 2nd dramatic loss of a key cricketer. If you are a vintage Cricket fan you surely know this man. During mid and late 90,s England was not a strong team.Those days England was an average team. But Graham thorpe was not an easy guy to give his wicket. He was a true hard competitor of that weak English side those days. He set the standards of batting in that phenomenal era. Cricket fraternity will surely miss this gem..

Another one of steve Bucknors many blunders when the ball could hardly be seen and he refused to call stumps. Steve Bucknor was the most useless umpire out of all the icc umpires and he was the main reason the DRS review system was introduced
@maindip Жыл бұрын
Pakistan played really slowly in the last innings, playing for the light, but the light gets offered to the batsmen not the bowlers, and and as was obvious they could see the ball clearly enough. Just punishment for gamesmanship.
@footballvideos75074 ай бұрын
Pakistanis are born cheaters, fraudsters and liars, and have no sportsman spirit. Pakistani players were deliberately wasting time so that Umpires could call the stumps and match ended in draw but in the end they lost.
@WilliamSmith-mx6zeАй бұрын
"With failing light always going to be a factor, Pakistan captain Moin Khan adopted desperate delaying tactics, for which he was fiercely criticised, after his side were bundled out for 158 on the final afternoon, leaving England a target of 176 in a minimum of 44 overs. His bowlers took 40 minutes to send down the first seven of these before tea, and almost three and a half hours to bowl a total of 41.3 intense, nail-biting overs. Moin, who was warned for his go-slow strategy by referee Ranjan Madugalle during the tea interval, made three unsuccessful appeals for bad light to umpire Steve Bucknor as Thorpe and Hussain resolutely stood their ground." - Wisden
