If you fancy yourself an amateur detective à la Agatha Raisin or Miss Marple, you will feel right at home in Cumbria, the county in which the Lake District is nestled. Grasmere, Conistone and Windermere belong to those idyllic hamlets one associates with cosy crime. Aside from lots of lakes, mountains, forests, there are castles. One in particular deserves an honorable mention: Muncaster castle is according to Mr. Muncaster (actually part of the Pennington family, who’ve lived there for 800 years straight) the most haunted castle in England. Now, how does that work? Frequency of hauntings and howlings? Ghost sightings? Who determines? Ghostbusters? One thing for sure, it is also an owl sanctuary and has owl shows which are most impressive. We’ve experienced one such exhibit. The 90,000 visitors each year help with the upkeep (If Downtown Abbey taught us anything, it’s that maintaining an estate is a pricey affair, especially if there’s an extensive upstairs downstairs thing going on.) There’s much more to this area than the haunted castle. Come along for a tour of one of England’s most beautiful places. Available worldwide except GAS

I can't get enough of the place. Sometimes I drive 5 hours on a Saturday, climb mountain on Sunday then 5 hours home. Worth it.

The Lake District is beautiful as long as you keep away from the areas that have tacky tourist trash sold in shops.

where are the trees?
@Tom-ck3io3 жыл бұрын
The whole of England suffers from severe deforestation in the mid 17-19 century so anywhere you go in England there won't really be many trees instead there are many many many fields

@@Tom-ck3io It normally takes 50 years for trees to reestablish themselves, and then 100 years to have a forest again. I wonder if they are continually grazing/keeping them from growing

Utter nonsense the real jewel in the crown of England isn't the lakes 😅 but please do carry on with this advertisement for the over crowed heavily populated lake district 😅
@paulm24675 ай бұрын
It has around 40,000 residents in 2,362 square kilometres, a population density of 18 per square kilometre, one of the least populated areas of England, Scotland, for example, has 70 per square kilometre. It does get crowded in the main towns of the South Lakes but there are areas that you can visit, even in peak season, where you won’t see many people at all. If you get out of your car and climb or walk in the North Western lakes it’s idyllic.
