England fan here and hoped we'd get through, but if it's a league system, then it doesn't lie. Anything can happen in a knockout tournament, but a league tells the truth. We were terrible in a lot of matches in the Nations League, so much so I wondered what had happened to us! In a league, the best team goes through, and that was The Netherlands. It was close in the end, but only England have themselves to blame for being in that position. Good luck Netherlands

Also: for the best european teams it is so hard to qualify. There are only 12 teams (worlds were 32) at the olympics and 3 of them european. With Spain, Germany, England, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark. With France already qualified these teams only fight for two tickets left.

This team doesn't warrant the slating they get when things go wrong or have under par games , every team suffers that occasionally . The scottish keeper was terrible, until the 5-0, which seemed to be enough for England, then all of a sudden she had some very good saves. But then when the Netherlands scored and England needed 1 more goal, the keeper just let the goal through, didnt even try to save the header in extra time. Very suspect that Scotland lost the biggest defeat at home, while they only lost with a 1 goal margin away against England. Good to see that it backfired, because the Netherlands scored an extra goal, so it didnt matter. Karma!

After winning 6 of their 8 games in the WWC QF group , losing only to eventual world champions Spain , they beat Austria in the first k/o, and lost a very close game to the Rep of Ireland ( the 2nd highest goal scorers in the NL ) by a single goal. They were 6-1-1 coming into the NL , and despite being the lowest ranked team in all of the A Div groups, still managed to hold Belgium to 2 draws. You do know that the NLs and England are the last two teams to win the Euros and get to the WC Final. Scotland have done really well since the start of WC qualifying. We may have beaten Scotland 6 - 0 However the problem throughout this tournament we have made mistakes and don’t deserve to qualify for the finals. We lost away to the Dutch in the final minute due to poor defending. We then lost to Belgium despite having 75% possession Sadly Serena Weigman had much to do with this team to make them world beaters

@@andrula Well, since all teams world wide have to qualify to play at the Olympics (with the exception of the host nation, France) it was a fair chance for everyone. England, too. But they failed. That may be very bitter but that's how the rules are. You don't qualify on the merits of your past performance.

​@@andrulathere will be twelve teams in the women's tournament. Three of them qualified via continental championship (USA and Brazil as winners, Colombia as a finalist). That was 2022 as well. Both USA and Brazil did very poorly at this year's world cup. As did Canada, by the way, who only recently qualified via play-offs. Also badly did Germany who went through some changes after the world cup and fought for their chance to qualify (which won't be easy against Spain and the Netherlands with France already qualified as the host). If England were automatically qualified as the European Champion, that would have been a two-year gap between qualifying for and playing the Olympics. Three years even, if the EC wasn't rescheduled due to covid. Common sense ist to qualify for a tournament in the year before it takes place to (most likely) have the same team competing that actually qualified. Which adds another question mark to the Lionesses qualifying for a mixed "Team GB", but that's a different story altogether ...

1. They didn‘t go through since the Netherlands got the goal difference and 2. it was hardly surprising that Scotland didn’t try because if they lost high enough, England would go through, maybe qualify and since it‘s team GB at the Olympics, Scottish players would also qualify on that team…

Highs and Lows last night, as others have said ... we messed up in the early matches and it was too much for us to rectify what had happened before!. It is a Great Pity we could not enter the Olympics as Great Britain ... oh well we move on!.
