Our golden generation. Hopefully it will continue the more we get young girls into football. USA have dominated for so long because "soccer" is considered a female sport and the college set up gave the sport an investment and growth we simply couldn't rival over here. Now the investment has gone into grassroots and we are seeing the dividends already. It really feels like we are only just getting started here in England with what we can achieve on a global scale.

Offside is when the attacking player is level or beyond the defender when a pass is made. On this occasion the attacker was one foot beyond the defender. Harsh I know, but it can happen to both sides. Basically the forward didn’t time her run .

First England goal the cross from Mead was on point but the pass from Bronze to Mead nutmegging Rapinoe was delightful. Talking of Rapinoe's heard some messages about her being booed was due to a homophobic crowd. Not in least! Rapinoe was being showed tough love, we all know she is a player who can change a game and got a great applause from both sets of fans when she left the pitch. The atmosphere was amazing, lots of friendly banter between fans in the area I sat; this is how football should be supported.

I was there at the game and it wasn't homophobic. Lol not in a women's football crowd. It was because what the TV didn't show (yes I have watched the game back) were key moments of gamesmanship. One moment a goalkick was awarded which rapinoe ignored and walked off to the corner flag ball under arm in protest, she spoke back to eng players about a var decision - it was the hemp pen - and the lineswoman had to run onto the pitch to sort it while the ref looked at the var screen, then finally the announcement was made for Rapinoe to be subbed off and she ignored it and stayed on the pitch pretending not to notice before she was told to run off. The cameras picked up none of it.

Another fantastic result for the lionesses albeit just a friendly but still. Have to say though the US 2nd goal did not look offside unless it was just the angle, felt very bad for them there. Also for the their first goal you'd have to question Millie Bright's pass to Stanway also, should be clearing down field with a US high press. That was an absolutely atrocious VAR decision to disallow the 2nd goal for USA. The player receiving the pass near the sideline was completely ONSIDE, as well as her teammate who received the first touch flick pass. On live television, they drew an offside line for a US player that was at least 25-30 meters away from that initial action, but because she was obviously not involved in the initial build up her position was completely irrelevant at that moment. Horrendous decision to disallow that goal and poorly explained during the telecast.

As an expat, lifelong football supporter and UK/US citizen, it seems to be that the women’s game in the UK might be gaining more support than in the US. The US team has been dominant for many years, but I still sense that the fans still only get excited during a WC. The same thing applies to the men’s team. There isn’t the same national pride in the US that we see when England plays.

It's down to the typical nationalism and press coverage for American sports. It's like how in the Olympics there is a huge level of support for athletes which suddenly nosedives after the tournament. A lot of Team GB fans are guilty of that, too (when it comes to following and supporting them in smaller tournaments, the drop off will be big; but to be fair, in the Commonwealth Games, there is a similar level of support albeit with Team GB being split into it's constituent realms and territories like England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; but also all the other ones essentially speaking, 'reliant' on the UK like the Isle of Man etc) The fact of the matter is that a lot of BS'ers come out of the woodwork in the big events then disappear again most of the year round. See it all the time.

5:28 that offside call was kinda sus if we'll look at the distance of this first passer from that line. She(6) looks ahead of the player she passed to(15), even the 2nd pass to the one who took the shot doesn't look offside coz she came from the back.. Or did no.15 somehow touched the ball after the shot? Idk it's kinda confusing from this perspective.

Just came back from the extended highlights…I don’t think “clearly” means what you think it means. Looked like Smith was even with the last defender. VAR is only supposed to overrule the call on the pitch when it’s clear and obvious. That offside was neither. Great game and all credit to the Lionesses, but it’s disingenuous to call that offside “clear.”
