It’s STILL weird to me seeing two American fellas SO knowledgable on our wonderful game,even extending to all the buzzwords! How about a map of the pitch,a fielding position is mentioned,you have to point to the spot? Every time deep square leg is mentioned on my tellybox,my Mrs always laughs,same with silly mid on. Keep up the enthusiasm guys.

In England we use the dukes ball which swings and moves or nips about off the seam, we also have climactic conditions the aid the ball to swing, the climate also dictates the the type of wicket that we can prepare, we can’t produce the rock hard fast roads that Australia and SA can produce, similarly we can’t produce the Bunsen burners (raging turners) that the subcontinent produce, so spinners don’t fair to well in England (Warne and Murili aside) swing and seam in England, which is Woakes wheel house, in Aus and SA with a kookaburra ball he’s just an up and down medium pacer, in India he’d be a net bowler. I think woakes and wood will play at old trafford as will Jimmy bowling from the James Anderson end, broad will be rested.

Can I just say, as an Englishman, I was disgusted by the behaviour at Lords, and as a working-class (well, maybe upper-working /lower-middle) cricket fan, unsurprised. Headingley restored my faith. A packed stadium full of, let's face it, drunk fans, everything to play for, and not ONE bit of trouble. As a Durham man transplanted by circumstance to Lancashire, it gives me heartburn to say it, but Yaaaaarkshire do have an amazing ground. Those boorish, braying, entitled arseholes in the Long Room could learn a bit by going to Old Trafford or Chester-le-street and seeing how real gentlemen behave.

Woakes' record in England is fantastic, outside England terrible. They should pick him at home, he's a good batting option at 8 as well. Wood is bowling 95mph rockets and has to play. Anderson is old but might play at his home ground in Manchester for a last hurrah. Who will England pick to bat at 3 for the next test? Stokes, Bairstow, Root or bring in a new player loke Dan Lawrence?

Love your work boys, so awesome to hear passionately talking about the Ashes. Its been such a good series. As an Aussie, I’m definitely glad worked and wood were left off the team in the first 2 games 😀 The problem with playing 2 all rounders is whether Green can come in to replace one of the batsmen. And I don’t see him opening to take Warners spot. I’d love to have Green and Marsh in but I don’t know how. So does he take a bowlers spot? He’s not a better bowler than Hazlewood though as a bowler. So you would be compromising one of the roles for a bit more of the other, yet often the all rounder isn’t is the best in the other role. Having one player who is a jack of all trades without being a master is ok but two is a big gamble. Maybe they can do both well but maybe isn’t international standard in either. A phrase I’ve heard used is you need to be able to be selected on one discipline (e.g be a top 6 batter in the country) and then let your other discipline be a bonus. Green I’d say is a batter who can bowl, and probably is a top 6 batter in Australia, but after being cautious with his hamstring I think it was for this game, it’s hard to drop any of the batters when Marsh just scored 100. Also, Australia currently hold the Ashes (won last series) so England can’t retain the Ashes if it goes 2-2. Australia retained (2-2) the Ashes last time they played in Eng so they are pretty keen to go one better and go the way this year and win it outright.

Ashwin has a great record against left handers. Australia had 4 lefties in the top 6- Warner, Khwaja, Head and Carey. Let that sink in. He definitely would have made a difference. Should have gone with him instead of Jadeja if India only wanted to pick 1 spinner. And he can bat too. He has 5 centuries ffs.

Guys England can't retain the ashes unless they win outright because Australia are the current holders. All Australia need to retain the ashes is 1 draw. All they need to win the ashes is 2 draws or 1 win. England on the other hand have to win 2 to get the ashes back which they haven't had since 2015, nearly a decade ago.

It is always difficult to play new ball. Warner played good in first two test and that helped the other batsmen to score runs. But yes he has failed to score big and now, he is under media trial. I guess Harry Brook is not looking comfortable against new ball and thats why Moin went to number three In general, most middle order batters dont want to play new ball... Ben Stokes has only Moin Ali to go and face the music. We always see things in data.. but Brook scored 75 because he came down the order. Brook got out playing a hasty shot in that innings too... He should have stayed till the end. England was lucky too... There were a few edges which went for runs.. Australia bowled really well but Todd Murphy was totally underbowled. The young boy should have got more overs. I agree with you, - Jimmy Anderson should have got the second new ball to bowl.

Marnus smith and Warner need to show up and score big next match, then this tail end slogging from England won't work, their batting is still vulnerable but they're being bailed out by the tail. Can Australia please win a toss for once as well, the conditions have been against them constantly this series. I hope Cummins has been practicing his coin tossing

I agree with some other folk writing here, I hope that MLC can be a success in the USA. I watched the highlights on youtube, and so far, the signs are not promising to be honest....it looks just like I imagined it would be....a handful of ex-pat Indians in the crowd, and nothing more. Was there any advertising on TV about the series? Did the playerrs visit schools and try to get Americans involved? Cricket is up against baseball, and so it will take time. But the signs are not good from what I have seen so far....the stadiums and pitches don't look much. Can you guys do a review of MLC so far? You know and love cricket, it will be interesting to hear your thoughts.

There's all this negativity after the last test but we only lost by 3 wickets, that too after an overall terrible batting performance across both innings. The problem that needs to be addressed is that the batting except Khawaja hasn't lived up to its reputation. On paper our batting line up is powerful compared to Englands hit or miss Bazballers. We cannot go into the next test being scared about what Ben stokes will do if he's left with the tail, and scared of mark wood and Chris Woakes runs down the end. If stokes is left with the tail, he's going to slog for sure, but look at where his areas are. At lords nearly every ball was slogged over to cow corner and we were just feeding him, maybe bowl outside off and pack the off side to restrict him then work on the tail. Our bowling to the tail has become predictable, Woakes and wood were just setting up to back away and slog to midwicket because they knew what was coming. The bouncer can still be used an a surprise, but they need to shorten them up and bowl at the stumps after. Even at lords, Josh tongue was walking across and exposing all his stumps and it took forever for starc to hit them. They put on 30 odd for the last partnership. We've got to stop giving away silly wickets to moeen ali and Joe root when we're on top too because that always lets them back in. At 240-4, we don't crumble in a pile to 263 all out and push on to 350, and England are 167-8, Eng aren't coming back from that. It's these things that need to be addressed, score 400-450 next match and we'll win. I'm calling on Marnus and smith to please wake up; head to convert to a 100, and runs from Carey and green which have dried up since Edgbaston.

Chris Woakes is unlucky to be an all-rounder in the same era as Ben Stokes and Jimmy Anderson. He is not as good a batter as Stokes or swing bowler as Anderson. As for Stokes "he doesn't know what he is doing" England won 1 of 13 prior to Stokes taking over as captain, when he stated England won't draw many, suggesting they will always go out to win. As per the declaration call. 11 wins out of 17 under Stokes is some turnaround. Enjoy the channel guys. 👏

Test cricket folks is the greatest team game ever devised, everything else is 'practice'. I think Australia can strengthen their batting and play 2 allrounders, they lost this game due to their batting and it's been pretty poor for their standards throughout the series except the lords first innings and even then they were set to get 500+ till they threw away wickets to Joe root. Khawajas been holding it up otherwise. And I agree smith does look asleep, he averages 60, no one on the England side does. I'd play 2 allrounders and leave out Hazlewood and Boland. The way starc and Cummins are bowling atm I think that's enough fast bowling power and with England playing Bazball they're just as likely to get themselves out. Aus just need big runs on the board. Under 300 scores just won't cut if

Somehow they have to find a way to include Marsh, Hazelwood and Green. Marsh was the only one to smack Wood's bum but also a good bowler. Green adds more for variety with hight of his bowling and his batting and Hazelwood more economical and experienced than Boland.
@petergroth9290
@petergroth9290 Жыл бұрын
Fixed the Australian selection headache for you --> Drop Warner, Boland and Murphy. Marsh to open. Green and Hazelwood will be back, also bring in Neser (who is scoring centuries in county at the moment). If Neser's batting is in form we bat all the way down to no. 10. We have a few batsmen who can do part-time spin to break things up (the way Joe Root does). England meanwhile should bite the bullet and drop Anderson bringing Tongue back (they can say he needs to be 'rested'). Moeen is just warming up, he will make a bigger contribution next test.

Honestly, Woakes is as soft as room temperature butter. You will get a good game out of him every now and then when they have kept him in the freezer, soaking in liquid nitrogen over night. But honestly, that is not what it takes to be a test match cricketer. Roll him out for one match, every now and then, or he is injured or playing like a dud. I can not believe that you, Nick, can not see how soft he is. But what ever. You go on believeing that he is what ever you believe he is. If they keep rolling him out every now and then for 1 big match, you are likely to get a few out of him. But, Keep him in the team week in week out and all you will see is 'this injury, that injury, some mental issue, stress, fatigue, etc etc etc. He is soft, it is as simple as that.
