You always wonder what's up with all the hooks and weird angles on polearms until you see how optimized they are at controlling the opponent's weapon.

So that's why the English Infantry either Man-at-Arms, Peasants or Knights used that effectively at the battlefield. It can thrust, slash and grapple, the fork part between the bill and the spearhead is useful to catch the shaft part of the opposing enemy weapon to avoid it's impact against the wielder.

Also, are there different techniques for single combat and formation fighting with the bill?
@AngloSaxon1
@AngloSaxon1 6 жыл бұрын
We only train the single combat stuff, the formation fighting isnt something we have studied

@AngloSaxon1

You can get them from the many custom makers like Paul Binns, Nick of Nicks knives etc, The one I am using is home made out of thin steel.

It is, It is a martial art so it can be dangerous but this is an advanced weapon so people who know how to handle weapons have good control.

Fighting Arts of England Still, I think you might be better off with a synthetic billhook or something, or at least some face & hand protection.

No, thats not how we train, we want the fear to be there and the danger so the students respect the weapons and their training.

Well, the Bill is a polearm and you need a bit of room to use one, but if you put the bill head onto a 5 foot pole, preferably Ash or Oak it is still historically authentic and can be used at length and at close quarters. The Cold Steel one is cheapest and is a well made deadly piece

The thing that I like about the billhook is that you can use it to injure the occupant of a motor vehicle and at times disable the vehicle itself, after making modifications to the billhook of course. Remember, don't let the glowies trick you into breaking the law.

But you have great skill to master so dangerous a weapon, I bet it is not very popular weapon for every Brit back then. And a bill-men should have higher wage than normal soldiers
@AngloSaxon1

I don't know about the wages, but Bill Men were extremely dangerous men.

@@AngloSaxon1 But how do you know ancient people fought like that? Maybe your skill is much better than most of them, because you can see a lot of modern martial arts from the entire world and use them on Bills. Perhaps the incoming game "Medieval 3 total war" should to use your fighting action packs because those skills are quite believable. Last time in Medieval 2 total war, the Bill men acted very dumbly, basically were just cavemen with bills.

WithAStick AngryWhiteMan hello, we do have a reasonably good idea as to how the ancients fought, we read and decipher the ancient works these fighting masters left for us. We use George Silver and other masters as our guides, because they wrote extensively about their arts and instructions on how to train and use technique, as well as principals to abide by.

Love it! most Irish name ever teaching english "martial arts". Heads up bud, we don't have any martial arts in England with the exception of the headbutt.
@AngloSaxon1
@AngloSaxon1 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, The English martial arts has been around since the 11th century, maybe longer, their are many laws that outlawed them during these times, so we know that they were defo around, they are even older than martial arts that come from the East. And yes, the headbutt is part of that overall art.
