8:00 It's about the receiver not having possession of the football. Generally you have to catch and then make some sort of football move (secure the ball, take a step forward etc) at which point if the ball is struck out or dropped it becomes a fumble. Prior to possession the drop would be an incomplete pass - he hadn't "caught and possessed the football". A touch from the opponent is encouraged - they are trained to try to punch the ball out to force a fumble - often times they will miss an easy tackle because they are focused on hitting the ball and creating a turnover. In this instance the opponent would have been hitting the ball out "too soon" - it could have been "intercepted" before it hit the ground potentially (capturing the ball before it hits the ground and before the receiver has possession [after would then be the fumble]) but since the receiver made contact with it but couldn't secure it it simply became an incomplete pass. Dropped while attempting to secure.

I’ve been studying premier league football and Tottenham Spurs seem like the English equivalent of the Chicago Bears. One of the original founders. See Thog, a lot of the comments are going to give you shit, but you’re understanding American football at 6:13 the thing about American football is you can score with a 2-3 minute possession (drive) but it’s how you manage the calls you’re wanting or reading on the field to get stops or make the more yards on offense. As a football fan and as a American-Argentine I hope the NFL makes leaps into Europe and South America, because of the influences we have from rugby this sport can make impact just as football ⚽️ on this planet

Great content, always good to see English taking a liking to American Football. Though always a niche sport, I think there’s potential in the UK to develop a grass roots American football movement in the future. That being said, I can tell the dude who uploaded the video has alot to learn about Football. You can tell he’s one of these types that thinks football is just rugby with pads which cannot be further from the truth. When he called out the dude doing a handshake after a goal line stop he sort of snickered about it saying American football is something else. Down and distance completely changes the game, the strategy, how you tackle in American football vs rugby. I think English people have a hard time wrapping their heads around it because to them it’s just a routine rugby tackle. Fact is it’s 3rd and goal, you’re trying to stop a touch down and hold them to a field goal. A touchdown would’ve totally changed the game. In order to make that play, the defense has to do several things. They have to diagnose whether it’s a pass or a run, if it’s a run (like this play) they have to diagnose what type of run (dive down the middle, counter, pitch outside etc) then the defender has to avoid any would be blockers and tackle the ball carrier in such a way that completely stops their forward momentum. The defender was able to do that on a very pivotal play, hence the celebration.

@@wt0403 Unlike soccer everyone on the field is playing a vital role at all times. In soccer you only care about the person with the ball and the defender who's closest to the person with the ball. In football you watch the wide receiver vs cornerback duels. Or the defensive line vs the offensive line. Or the running back + blockers vs the entire defense. Or the quarterback vs the defensive line. And the quarterback's throw to the wide recievers. All in the same play. And the game doesn't stop for 2 minutes. It stops for 40 seconds at most. Usually 10-25 seconds. So with all the things going on you can think about the previous play while waiting on the next one. Football is way more complex than soccer. Baseball is the same way. Just a few notes for ya. That initial kick was called the kickoff. It is kicked to the opposing team (not trying to make it through the uprights). Additionally, after each score the scoring team kicks the ball off to the opposing team. A touchdown is 6 points. They can kick an extra point for 1 or go for a 2 point conversion (1 play). Generally speaking, 4 plays to gain 10 yards to reset and earn 4 more plays(certain penalties can result in automatic first down) Typically it’s punted (kicked) on 4th down, but they can go for it. If it’s failed, then the opposing team takes over from that position. Field goals are worth 3 points. I’ll leave it there for now.
