A doctor asks a past about her past medical history. You may find this interaction within a Listening A-style consultation - a healthcare professional may ask a patient about his/her past medical history as a background to the current health issue.

This was very good quality, but I noticed a lot of close ended questions, which we have been encouraged NOT to use.

Thanks for your comment, Peter. This video follows on from the previous unit where more open-ended questions were asked to start the interview. Whilst there were a lot of closed questions in this video, it reflects the kind of questions doctors ask for specific information. It also reflects the fact that, at this stage of the patient interview, time is precious. The course videos show a variety of question types, including closed questions. Unfortunately, a lot of paperwork in hospitals revolves around a 'check box' style arrangement. Doctors and nurses have to become proficient in extracting a large amount of information in a short time. This can be quite difficult. At times, closed questions are necessary, however, I believe I have shown how to follow a closed question with funnelling questions or open questions, where more details are required.
