She is not a feminist. She sings about women empowerment, yes, but, in a different, from the western understanding of it, way. You need to find a good translation of the lyrics, and go through it. Also, she refers to a very famous and beloved Russian book - "The Scarlet Sails" by Alexander Grin, in the song. (One should make it a point to attend the annual Scarlet Sails celebration in Sankt-Petersburg. It is something to behold...) The meaning of the song she sings is way deeper than a Western mind can grasp right away. One needs to return to the lyrics text, and re-read it, several times, in order to understand it correctly. She, also, refers to some episodes from her earlier life in Tajikistan, where she was born, and spent her childhood. (She is of Tajik nationality.) She is a very well-read and educated girl, but with a lot of pain inside. And, she releases it in her songs. This song is NOT about Russian women, (there are 176 nationalities living in Russian Federation, of which Russians are only one, by the way). This song is about women in general, but she says "Russian women" because it is easier to accommodate into a song - singing - without explicitly talking about everybody else, as well as, because she represents Russia in the contest.

Basically, this song is about Russian women and their problems. At the beginning she referenced to a book Scarlet Sails and then she says "Why waiting? Get up and go. Rap part is about stereotypes: You already 30? Why don't you have children? Wear something longer, wear something shorter. Yeah, you're pretty, but you need to lose weight. The folk part is about broken families, she says "son without father, daughter without father, but this broken family won't break me". Little Big said that they will not represent Russia this year for 2 reasons: because they don't want another song of theirs to be compared to UNO and they also want to give an opportunity to the other russian talents. Little Big explained that they didn't want to participate this year because they wanted to give a chance to other artists, also they didn't want to be compared to their previous entry. Thanks for your reaction Noosh, many Russians are hating this song because it's really unconventional, but I am digging it, female empowerment, it ridicules all our local stereotypes that a woman faces, it's really cool in my opinion. I looked at some of your reactions to the songs and I have a question. Do you have songs that you don't like? Almost all of your reactions are the same. All WOW, All cool. Or is it a game for many bloggers under the name "Tolerance to all countries". But here we evaluate the songs and I want to see the sincerity, not the blogger's acting!

It's obviously a satire. It mocks ethnic Russians who usually treat Tajiks and other Asians (even if they are natives) like sh*t. I personally am from Yakutia, Russia's largest region, and I have always been treated like a foreigner or migrant who doesn't deserve to be on the same train or in the same room with Russians (or Slavs in general). I have lived in St. Petersburg for 8 years and those were the hardest times in my life, filled with xenophobia and hatred. I think people forget that 80% of Russia is located in Asia.

It must sound Armenian to you because the sound is not Slavic at all but indeed Middle Eastern. She was probably drawing from her Tajik heritage
