Learn about five of the most common grammar mistakes made by English students - and learn how to avoid them! Articles are an area where you may have trouble in English, because the rules on when to use them and when not to use them are probably different from your first language. Learn whether you should say “I’m an engineer” or “I’m engineer,” “I like apples” or “I like the apples,” and more. The rules for job titles, adjectives before nouns, public places, general statements, and superlatives are taught in this video. This is an essential beginner English lesson for students who want to improve their grammar and their speaking skills in English. Watch it, become more aware of these English article mistakes. Finally, make sure to do the quiz on EngVid to solidify your understanding. www.engvid.com/english-gramma...

Alex,thank you.Could you please explain what I have to use if I'm at the bank now but not my local bank or not the one I usually go to. Is it correct to use "the bank" here?
@engvidAlex
@engvidAlex 3 ай бұрын
Yes. Even if it’s not your usual bank, you can say “I have to go to the bank,” or “I’m at the bank” if someone asks you where you currently are. You can also say “I’m not at my normal bank. I had to use a different one.”

Yes it does. If you’re part of a community, the article is usually dropped. The most common examples are: school, church, mosque, temple.

@jonatanfriederichs7519
@jonatanfriederichs7519 Жыл бұрын
The second one is more logic... When you ask for "what kind" the answer is one among the others... When you specify using "of a person" you restrict the possibilities to just one...

Why not " he is a greatest chef in the world " instead of "The"
@engvidAlex
@engvidAlex 6 ай бұрын
Because he is alone in his greatness. He is at the top of the rankings. In this case, you must say “He is the greatest.” You can also say “He is one of the greatest” if you would like to say he is one of many great chefs.
